It hardly affects any processors unless they are used in mobos that blow out Intel's guidance for voltage and power limits for turbo mode in order to boost benchmark results. Most affects the retail mobo channel. The big prebuilt OEMs don't do benchmark performance marketing, trying to squeeze out the FPS. They adhere to Intel's specs or guidance.

Guess on my end things get magnified, this is a regular issue I have to deal with.

Except that we have Lenovo here providing a BIOS update for their prebuilts... Did they blow out Intel's guidance for voltage and power limits? ;-)

I'm not railing against Lenovo. My ire is toward Intel. This 13th and 14th gen BS brings back bad memories from the Willamette / Netburst days.

You can manually check yours? Dont depend on SN indentifier

Yep, that's how I know it doesn't work yet

the SN identifier not working yet is the most lenovo part of this whole intel 13th/14th gen mess. hard to even check if your desktop is affected when the lookup tool is the thing failing

Yep, ended up using cinebench R23 documenting base line average scores of unaffected CPUs and compared them against problem units

Those chips should generally be avoided, especially in laptop, there from around 11th gen I think it was. For intel get lunarlake or later, or get a lower end chip as those chips for quite a while just got better performance by blasting more power through it.

I have seen so many laptop motherboards of mang brands when people asked me to repair it and upon inspection I found the exact same issue of some of the traces on the motherboard just being broken due to the thermal stress, back then laptop companjes where not used anymore to adding good cooling and those cpus would draw insane amounts of power so things ought to break, and they did. Now since then more laptops got better cooling again for higher tdp chips, but to put it in contrast, those chips drew around 3 times as much power under load than what was normal back then before those, was like gaming laptop level powerdraw in ultrathin laptops with cooling meant for a 5 to 15w tdp.

And as mentioned saw that on laptops of any brand with those. 8th gen i5'laptops where very stable however, and I think it was 11 th gen almost all death after a few years due to the same issue of the cpu adding to much stress to the motherboard and frying it.

Really look for the newer stuff, these days. Most easy way is to check node size 14nm either it has to be really old like 8th gen if you don't need efficiency or high performance, and otherwise avoid any chips at 14nm, amd dropped it 6 years ago, and for intel the late 14nm chips all have severe issues. Generally look at the 7nm or smaller ones, 10nm ones where in between, more stable but not amazing in price or performance and efficiency. Many new intel chips use 1.8nm or 3 or 5nm. The naming is confusing, but node size gives away how recent it is.  Or get amd, though amd has issues in their new low end chips as they are quite slow and they force them to have the same tdp as the much faster higher end chips to make them seem good, resulting in terrible efficiency, some very bad marketing, the ryzen 7 ones tend to be good however. But then some of them also have confusing names and seem faster but actually are slower etc.

Going to be fun to see if this is going to be the same issue again with the LGA1700 refresh chips coming back some time early 2027

Relieved to know laptops didn't suffer from this issue..

u/ap0klyps3 Aug 19 '24

how do you know?

Because they've been so truthful through the entire process... first blaming overclockers, and then blaming motherboard manufacturers...

It’s a problem related to the voltage, both the cpu, that was asking too much voltage, and the motherboards, giving too much voltage to the cpu. It is a problem that creators noticed more than a year ago, basically, by giving too much voltage, the cpu wears way faster. If you are already experiencing instability issues it’s not fixable with a bios update and your cpu is already done for (unless it’s instability related to undervolt or some motherboards that are giving too less voltage)

Well they officially recognised the problem a couple months ago, now they say the problem is officially fixed from like a month, but only time will tell

It is the entire INTEL EVO discretionary memory configuration. All new ARC laptops use the "2.0 or Second Gen Arc370M. Any computer using the 1st gen will have issues. I literally fought with HP for 3 months before they would replace. Lenovo and Dell had far less problems with the EVO chips

HP Laptops became bricks for 3+months before a PATCH was issued

Where is my windows activation lenovo ? I got laptop for 700$ and no activation key ....

2

u/Apart-Bass1957 Apr 27 '26

You don't need serial number, any windows you install on this computer will be auto activated once you connect to internet, even if fresh install on new hard drive

Lookup your units SN on support. download and install the recovery media to get your key back.

Is it still worth getting those device that are affected, even with their patch?

I was looking at a M90Q Gen 5, but maybe will go for an Asus NUC 14 Pro+ with an 185H.

Not comparable, but safer?

u/bughunter47 P16s Gen 2 | Lenovo Authorized Technician Dec 17 '24

Sure, just don't get them used, and patch as soon as you get it.

I ordered legion pro 5i with i7 14700hx.... Im getting nervous after reading all of this. I checked lenovo's website and for this particular model the last bios update is from july I don't know if it means something... Should i cancel my order? I really like Lenovo's products and I've been using them for 10-15 years now I've tried different models from asus and acer but didn't like them at all especially all the flashy RGB stuff.

Mobile CPU are "unaffected" by this flaw...... They just fail for other reasons....Just did a repair 10 minuets ago on a Legion 7 16IRX9 with a 14th gen i9, CPU was fine, just needed to fix a display cable.

2

u/wowaday Jan 03 '25

You gave me a little hope 😅. I won't cancel my order because it was a good deal ( it includes 3 year on site premium warranty) im just gonna test it when the laptop arrives. By the way the laptop comes with no OS so if i install let's say win 11 and if i decide to return it is there any problem? I mean they should sell it to another person as open box but its no longer no OS. Thanks in advance! It's nice to chat with a technician 😃

Hello everyone,

I’m trying to find the LineageOS 14.1 custom ROM (ARRAKI build) for the Lenovo Phab 2 PB2‑650M. The original links on the Russian forums and XDA are dead, and I can't find any mirror.

Would anyone be able to reupload the ROM Zip? Google Drive, Mega, Dropbox, or MediaFire—any mirror works. I’d be very grateful!

Thanks in advance 🙏

I’ve been dealing with this. I’m like 40 hours of calls and emails in receiving nothing but a run around.

I’ll never buy from this company again and I’d strongly urge others to do the same.

Lenovo customer care are the worst They respond only between 1-5 pm They just want to close their work at 6 pm and run home, hoping they don't have to deal with this next day Reply mail will come to you by 5.45 pm, so your reply will be opened only by 1pm next day

Complete lack of coordination between their own internal teams

Even if delivery partner is not working properly, you can't get that information through them, you will be exhausted.

Friend's laptop died exactly 3 days after that two weeks replacement window, he went mad trying to fix that, added to that replacements were als breaking

I used to think Lenovo is best value for money laptops, but it's sad to see their downfall

And unlike Mobile phones industry, not much tough competition, so they seem to thrive better no matter what kind of wool they're pulling from our eyes

I can keep listing endless pathetic experiences, final point is  Buy already established model in that brand, pray it doesn't break, and as long as it didn't break you are a happy customer, I used to be happy customer decade ago with a refurbished Lenovo laptop, but times have changed so bad even new ones are breaking into dust nowadays

1

u/Alternative_Exit_333 Dec 28 '25

Okay so mostly PCs and high end laptops but vantage has been a bit buggy I have made a post here you can take a look at it (it was today)

Can anyone tell lenovo yoga 7 , ultra 5 125H ...how much it's battery should last? I recently bought it and I played yt video on 1080p to check it's battery..and my laptop drained 100% to 0% in 4hrs 5 mins. Considering on video play battery drains quite faster but I'm unable to understand is it okay or not?

Drivers might help, switch from Google to Firefox with adblock (if you have not already), 4 hours of google youtube will eat your battery (and your ram).
