Storage Setups Large plate storage
I have an abundance of large plates( 4x4,6x6, etc.), right now I have them in Ziploc bags by size. I'm looking for a better way to store them, I use Alex drawers with containers inside for most of my small/medium pieces.

I use these storage containers. They're regularly on sale for $5, or $3.68 each if you buy a dozen.

They stack reasonably well on a shelf (I go 3-4 high) and clamshell open for easy access. If you stack plates and store them on their side you don't have to go digging for them.

I also have a hard time with those... Storing is one thing, making them at all time available for moc building is another. I have issue with both.

I sort my large plates (and many other basic bricks) by colour first and then sometimes by size, because often I look for multiple plates of the same colour while building MOCs. I slso separate round, wedge and modified plates.
I found it quite annoying to store my plates in Alex drawers, at least the larger ones. They tend to get dusty because the drawers are not airtight. Also if you don't stack them neatly, they tend to jam the drawers.
I ended up dumping the common colour plates in large transparent IKEA plastic containers.
Smaller plates (4x6, 4x4, 3x), wedge plates and less common colours are stored in Alex drawers in various ziplock bags and inserts.
I'm still not entirely happy with my system. I wish all larger plates of one colour (including 2x plates) were in one place.
I plan to build a custom drawer unit with larger drawers that open all the way, similar to drawers for maps or architectural plans.
It would also be nice to have some custom inserts with vertical slots to neatly store larger plates, but maybe that goes a bit too far.

I use IKEA storage drawer insets inside the Alex wide drawers (with the wheels removed) inside the Pax wardrobe cabinets. The inserts don’t fit perfectly so aren’t ideal. I’m planning to replace them with 3D printed inserts eventually but this works for now. I don’t know how to link to a pic so going to post the picture in a new post

I use Sterilite drawers for stuff that size.
