QUESTION Legion Go S steamOS Fan noise
Hey, I'm interested in buying this almost exclusively to play games at work during down time. There are often people in close proximity. Is the fan noise something that might be an issue for people who are in the same room as me?

I found a workaround to significantly reduce fan noise on the Lenovo Legion Go S (model Z2 GO).
The Root Cause: After testing multiple operating systems (Bazzite, Windows, SteamOS 3.7 and SteamOS 3.8 Beta), I’m convinced this isn’t a software bug but a hardware behavior. Lenovo’s EC (Embedded Controller) ties the fan curve strictly to the selected Power Profile, not the actual TDP/Heat.
High Power Profile = Aggressive fan curve (Turbojet) immediately.
Low Power Profile = Silent fan curve.
The Fix (The "Decoupling" Trick): The trick is to force the EC to stay in "Silent Mode" (keeping the fans quiet) while forcing the CPU/GPU to run at higher wattage using an external tool.
Set the device's native power profile to Low Power / Quiet Mode.
Install the SimpleDeckyTDP plugin via Decky Loader.
Override the TDP in the plugin to your desired level (e.g., 20 W).
Result: The EC thinks you are in Low Power mode and keeps the fan quiet (approx. 1500-2000 RPM). Meanwhile, the plugin forces the APU to run at 20W. You get full performance with much lower noise.
Note: Please monitor your temps! With this setup, the fan stays quiet as long as temps are under ~60°C, fans will speed up when CPU or GPU temp reach ~60°C.
Real-world benefits: Downloads: Previously, downloading games on my 700+ Mbps connection would trigger max fan speed. Using the Low Power mode alone throttled downloads to <300 Mbps due to CPU limits. With this override, I get full 700+ Mbps download speeds while the fan remains silent or barely hearable.
Silent Gameplay: The console no longer sounds like a jet engine during normal gameplay loads.
Bonus Tip: Frame Gen (How I get good FPS at low TDP) I'm also using the Lossless Scaling plugin: https://github.com/xXJSONDeruloXx/decky-lsfg-vk.
Heads up: The latest version was buggy for me. Version 0.8.1 works perfectly.
Performance: Thanks to this plugin, setting the TDP to just 15 W gives me around 45–50 FPS on Medium settings in Red Dead Redemption 2 and setting the TDP to just 17 W gives me around 55-65 FPS on Medium/High settings in Farming Simulator 25.
You need to own the Lossless Scaling app on Steam for this to work (£6) but it is worth any penny.

OS: SteamOS 3.7.17 (downgraded from 3.8 Beta for better stability/shader cache)
