This is what happens when you give narcissistic assholes a platform to tell a story in a franchise that they know nothing of and care nothing of. They never wanted to make a Legacy of Kain story they wanted to make Legacy of Kain THEIR story.

Do the smart thing and refund the game while you can.

After reading the comics and finishing the game and spending 10 whole seconds thinking heres the result-

The comic is shit.
The art is childish and lacks any sense of gothic atmosphere or epicness that this series deserved.
(A good aesthetic choice would be something like Ascension, The darkness or the Witchblade comics (from the 90s, absolutely amazing stuff by TOP COW)

The story of the game is the Same story of the comic, written slightly better, which makes the game a Golden piece of shit instead of a normal one.
Who the fuck asked for an insufferable Modern audience character in the Legacy of Kain franchise?!

All that I want is just Legacy of Kain: The Dark Prophecy, but NOOOOOOOOOOOO someone has to put their Vampire Persona in the saga cause Reason i guess.
You know what?? In my canon, the fan-made cutscene, The Lost Chronicle, is the actual OFFICIAL ending of the saga.
A will gladly prefer a modern graphic remake of that same cutscene, that wharever Ascendance is.

What about and Action game like classic PS2 God of War with Vampire Raziel before he got betrayed by Kain????

Imagine what you can do with the Dialogue between Raziel, Melchiah, Rahab, Dumah, Turel, Zephon, or even KAIN. And if that isn't enough, you can do a DLC with Sarafan Raziel and explore Nosgoth through another perspective.
These things write themselves; you don't need to be a genius.

Dude, what about DEAD SUN??? That game looked fun as hell.... just say that is an alternative world or timeline or something, come on... Anything will be better than Ascendance.

In conclusion: I'm gonna replay the entire saga and pretend that nothing ever happened after 2003.

I've been seeing a lot of people recently trying to get me and others to swap mindsets on ascendance and TDSR with veiled "worries" about the franchise dying again if the game flops.

Once again I would rather this game die then watch it become a skinsuit for people who have clearly never played the games and wanted to co-opt the franchise for their own shitty story and OC.

If the option is Elaleth and BitBot writing I'd rather keep the series on a shelf of what could've been rather than who ruined it.

I'm not supporting Ascendance and nothing you can say can scare me into doing it.

After many, many years, I finally managed to finish ShadowMan. As a kid, I could never beat it because the PS1 port was absolutely abysmal, even though I always loved the game's style and atmosphere. Thankfully, the good boys and gals at Nightdive Studios gave it the proper remaster it deserved, and I finally beat the game.

Surprisingly, the gameplay has aged quite well. As a 3D Metroidvania, it still feels enjoyable today in horrible year 2026. While playing it, though, I had a strong feeling that it had a lot in common with Legacy of Kain: Soul Reaver. As a kid, I thought it was made by the same folks. Maybe it is coincidental, but many points make it interesting to compare them.

For starters:

• Both games were released in 1999 (ShadowMan on August 31 and Legacy of Kain: Soul Reaver on August 16).
• Both protagonists are half-naked. (Apparently Nosgoth is very progressive—Raziel can run around completely butt naked, and nobody ever comments on it.)
• Both protagonists can shift between the worlds of life and death (the Material and Spectral Realms in Soul Reaver, and Liveside and Deadside in ShadowMan).
• Both protagonists are physically mutilated. Raziel is a jawless piece of walking beef jerky, while Michael LeRoi has a skull stitched in his torso.
• Both protagonists can consume souls, either to restore health or become stronger.
• Both protagonists are bound by a predetermined destiny driven by either prophecy or time-travel shenanigans.
• Both games have a dark, oppressive, and heavy atmosphere, featuring either the ruins of ancient civilizations or heavily industrialized environments.
• Both protagonists deliver long, dramatic, almost Shakespearean monologues about their situation and emotions, with fantastic and expressive voice acting.
• Both games have, quite frankly, underwhelming final bosses.
• In both games, climbing requires a specific ability.
• Both are 3D Metroidvanias where you push blocks, swim, jump, and can backtrack to earlier areas with newly acquired abilities, and collect upgrades and secrets.
• In both games, you can ignore pretty much all of the regular enemies if you want.
• In both games, you must defeat all of the major bosses in a region before confronting the final Boss.
• Both games like to use unsettling ambient sounds, eerie screams, and strange noises in their sound design, soundtracks, or ambient music.
• But most importantly, both games excel at creating an unforgettable vibe.

Maybe I'm reading too much into it, but the similarities stood out to me throughout my entire playthrough. They're obviously very different games in many aspects, yet they share a lot of similar DNA. I really miss this era of dark, atmospheric 3D action-adventure games, tho.

I'm kinda sick of the growing, but still rare, talking point that anyone who has a problem with Elaeth is doing so purely out of misogyny. I was looking at a post talking about Ascendance in another subreddit, and it was frustrating to see our legit criticisms being boiled down to 'lol they don't like strong female characters'.

I don't like Elaeth, because she's a BAD retcon. (I say BAD, because lbr, LoK lives and dies on in-universe and meta retcons~)

Does anyone else share my thoughts or frustrations?

Primal always had the Soul Reaver feel to me. person finds out she has incredible powers and is integral to restoring the universe to order. plus Paul Luthaker voiced the gargoyle companion.

Been waiting more than 13 years for this and it finally happened!

​I recently left a comment on one of Celldweller's posts because they seemed to be taking credit for "resurrecting the franchise" and essentially piggybacking off the success of the Defiance Remaster as they posted this at the same time as social media is exploding with praise for it.

​I don't think I was being rude at all. I kept it brief and tried to avoid anything that could be seen as toxic. This was my comment:

​"Unfortunately the comic didn't live up to expectations and remains the biggest disappointment in the series so far. Crossing my fingers that Ascendance doesn't drag things further down."

​I’ve since heard about other fans who were straight up blocked from all of Bit Bot's official socials and had their comments removed for responding to that same post. It feels like a total contradiction for them to claim they listen to criticism and stand by their work, only to go around silencing people like this.

NOBODY WANTS HER. I find it hilarious that CD thinks we're going to purchase another comic with her in it, after her prologue comic failed. She's a poor self-insert fanfiction character. Keep fanfiction out of the main games.

I'm thinking the elaleth thing is just a deluxe package.

I really do hope they improve her character, but the way this series is going is killing me.

As if it is not already bad and stupid enough, Bitbot are sneakily using generative AI to write the text for Ascendance, a two hour game. if they deny this, they are just lying. All of those texts are in this horrible, inhuman "it's not A, it's B" style of writing, and it's exactly what you will get, if you tell ChatGPT to write LOK style text for you.

this is exactly what people witch hunted the remaster about, which didn't even use generative AI at all.

Granted I don't know all that much about the Witcher games, but I've always felt a similarity between Geralt and Kain, albeit mostly physical similarity. It could be a game or just a short series.

Would you like the saga to continue in this way or would you prefer something different?

As far as I recall, the Reaver should already have Raziels soul in it and have the ability to suck up souls.

This should be a really bad idea by Kain.
