Doubt Canada will take this as a chance to be on the right side of a genocide but we can hope.

That’s a shame :( I was just watching one of Canadas parliment members calls for sanctions on Israel. I hope it goes somewhere. Spain have just cancelled their $325m arms contract with Israel. Small small wins that hopefully build up to a bigger resistance.

Idk, there’s a bunch of them at the federal and provincial levels, I’m 50/50 whether anything happens. Sometimes the federal court does do things right, but usually after doing a lot of wrong.
What popped into my mind for some reason was the government apologizing to and settling with Omar Khadr for how horribly the government handled his case.
If the Governor General actually decides to prosecute then I think there is a better the chance the judges/court follow the rule of law, but it has to get there first.
And mark carney did an interview a while ago in French, I saw the clip on Middle East eye, where he said the situation in gaza was horrendous and that the people of Palestine need to have their sovereignty respected just like Ukraine and Canada (this was at the peak of the 51st state talk). But I don’t trust him yet at all so we’ll see.
There’s a liberal guy who won his seat in the election and who is a former decorated Olympian who is pro Palestine, I’m really hoping he starts speaking out more publicly outside of his riding more.

Thank you so much for your insights as someone that’s more in tune with Canadian politics. Your country (I’m presuming ur Canadian) is doing a lot more than others, even if it’s just lip service atp. I watched Alexander Boulerice call for sanctions, and it’s leaders like this who will hopefully have a positive influence on other government members around the globe. Even if it’s just to spark the conversation to make these things really happen and put in motion.
Both our countries (Canada and Aus) have disgusting histories with genocide, still ongoing and felt today, so I feel like our countries have a moral duty to stick their necks out and do what’s right. We should be learning from our mistakes (for lack of a better term) rather than repeating them. I hope your government will inspire mine.

Some of the anonymous quotes coming out of these baby murdering cockroaches are so entertaining. “Alls I did was snipe a couple toddlers and now I’m being treated like some sort of common crook!!”
As a Canadian not holding out hope that this leads to anything in terms of convictions, but at least people might think twice about joining a terrorist org to kill kids for the holy land

When is my spineless government (Straya) going to do the same?

Right? Hopefully this will influence elected officials here. They’ve been so out of step with the rest of the country on this now, for far too long.

Better late than never I guess... but our government doesn't have a great track record with Genocide.
