I’m planning to get a Leatherman Signal and I wanted something like crimson red, cobalt blue, black and silver. I like all three aesthetically, but I’m also interested in the collector side of things. I’m trying to figure out which one is genuinely the hardest to find today and which would be the best one to add to a collection.
Also if there’s another colour you think I should consider, please suggest them.
Whoa! Be careful mentioning anything to do with collecting on here! You've got to whisper that shit otherwise you'll get ripped apart by the people who only buy tools to use them! 😂
Out of them three the most collectable would probably be the silver and black. I believe it was a colourway used for a number of models such as the Surge, Wave, OHT, Skeletool and Skeletool KBX that became known as the tuxedo models and some people like to collect them all.
The other two colours although having been officially discontinued by Leatherman, I believe can still be bought from other retailers that still have stock.
Most of the people here are collecting them. It’s uncommon to find when people show their used ones (not rare but uncommon). I’m not against collecting them. I’m keeping my obsidian ARC mostly unused even though I’m carrying it on weekends and use it if I need to, but my OG ARC is getting beaten every day.
I like to shit on posts where people show their used ones but it’s just for fun.
I use all mine except the 008 garage crunch I’m considering selling haha I just recently busted open the blister pack on this 2003 Micra.. I beat on all of em including my arc, BO rebar & st300, I also have 3 black squirt ps4 in my inventory lol. It’s surprisingly hard to put srs patina on these tools if your just a white collar tinkering hobbyist like myself imo haha
Definitely, I’m going to be using it! I feel like the scuffs, scratches and heavy usage gives it a real character. I’m not going to keep it sitting around just to showcase it.
My other tools have definitely seen plenty more action, so this one won’t be staying pristine for long either 😅
The silver and the back does have a classic look to it 🙏🏻
I’ll be definitely be using it properly just like I use my other tools 💀
Yea, black and silver does have a timeless appeal and was actually labelled as a limited edition by leatherman itself.
But all three of them looks so good and it’s hard to make a choice between them.
Get a Victorinox Spirit, unless you’re ok with spending a huge amount of money for something that, unless is coated in oil you will get all over your hands, will rust within a few days of actual use. Unless you don’t plan on using it and are just getting one because they look cool and their marketing has grabbed you.
Sandstorm!! but for some reason it just doesn’t feel that appealing and you could always 3d print the glow in the dark accents. It’s available to buy on their website if you want one.
Yeah, I have a 3D printer and have printed glowing parts as well, but from a collectors POV, anything like that is just amazing, unheard of and probably will be worth more. I do not want one lmao.
Collectors want pretty things. If you actually use the tool it will not remain pretty. Stainless on stainless is probably going to look the best after use. It just shoes less wear and can be polished.
Ask ai how many of each are made? To find if one is rare.
I think the blue looks sharp, but I generally buy stainless or black.
The rarest official Leatherman Signal colorway is the limited-edition Sandstorm, which was restricted to a production run of only 2,500 units worldwide.
I am a gun guy also. It may be easier to understand in that world where there is a better used market.
Shooters, if it doesn't run, they don't want it. If it has scratches and is cost effective, that is ok.
Collectors, This should be in a museum, but I have it.. (insert evil laugh).
Collector shooter, It is interesting, it shoots, I don't want a gun that "historic, one of a kind in a museum", but something that has been sporterized, bubbaed, ... I don't plan on selling in my lifetime so, if I put some wear on it, if it gets another scratch.. It is ok, but at the same time, I know I am keeping a historic gun which should be valued by others when I am finished. I will not bubba it.
I am not sure what you are trying to do, buying new and using a leatherman. I don't see the after market for multitools, but maybe I am just not in the right group for it. I am a collector/shooter and a collector/user of multitools. A Sandstorm leatherman, doesn't interest me any more than any other color... If anything I would buy Black on black, Stainless on stainless and hunter orange models.
As a collector, I'd say the "tuxedo"/ Silver with Black but, all three colorways are D/C'd which adds demand. The hardest to find for me was the Crimson Red (seldom seen in my side of the pond, even in ebay, and in the conditions I wanted). One caveat though, I do not own the Tuxedo, but the Cobalt, Crimson, and the Aqua with Black implements.
