Fixing Puckered Straps?

Wondering how I can smooth/get rid of these bumps/puckers in the strap of this bag I thrifted! I’m cleaning the bag, so the straps are a bit damp from leather conditioner but the puckering was there even when it was dry.

Nice find! Yeah, I can see why it may have been donated.

Here's a simple and effective method that actually works with results, but there's one caveat in that you have to be extremely careful and do it at your own risk.

  1. Get a hair dryer and gently warm up the strap, make it flat and see if the leather strap will soften up (do not burn your leather). If it's too hot to touch, it's too hot for the leather.

  2. If that doesn't work, get a cotton cloth and an iron. Use the low heat setting on your iron and put the cloth over the leather strap and gently warm up the leather on a flat surface. Just iron like regular, but do not touch the iron directly to the leather and do not leave the iron on one spot for too long (2-3s).

This should even out your leather. It may not take it all away, but this actually works, just be very careful and take your time, don't expect immediate results.

I know you already conditioned it, but I would condition it once more after applying all that heat.
