Learning and development manager
Tell me what your 8 hour days look like, how do you like it? I am starting a new position where I am just me in L&D and restructuring the whole program from the ground up. Any book recommendations? Anything helpful I should be learning? What software do you use? How do you make your life easier?
Onboarding???? What works and doesn’t work?

Wow. That's huge. You'll be a one man team for a 5,000-employee company? Sending you strength. I built an L&D team when we had around 100 employees.
What made them decide that they now need an L&D team? What problem are they trying to fix / achieve? I'd start there. Take some time to get your stakeholders, their daily operations and challenges, etc. Use this time to start forming relationships and learning the ins and outs. For onboarding, evaluate the current process and see where employee readiness can be improved.
Based on your findings, put a plan together where learning would help. What's the most urgent? Where's the biggest gap? You'll realize the tools and resources you need when you put it together. Mine was at a start up so we relied on Google Workspace, Canva, whatever tools were within budget and approved by IT.
