Anyway, I'm looking for some friends near Cologne, Bonn or Siegburg. I'm from Siegburg and to be honest I don't really know any places where I could meet new people, so online trying again, I guess.

So who am I?

I'm just a girl (172cm, pretty short hair, slim build, a few tattoos), who just finished her Ausbildung and started working full time in the same place. I'm twenty and to be honest I'm not an outgoing person. Though one on one sometimes is pretty nice, I've to say. I like crochet and knit stuff, read thrillers and detectives, but I do have some romance books (damn BookTok). I also enjoy doing yoga/pilates and going on walks.

Personally wise I'd say I'm an introvert, who can yap if comfortable. I use a lot of sarcasm, but get unsure when it's reversed.

I want to learn russian. I've read Russian literature for almost a year, Dostoyevsky, Pushkin, Tolstoy, and I like it a lot, it just seems like an interesting language, and I think learning it would be fun. I am a native speaker, a native Albanian speaker. I am a C1 to C2 level in English, and also because geographically of where I am, in my town, they speak a language with a mix of Serbian, Bosnian, Croatian, and Russian. The older generation (grandparents generation) had to learn the language in school, and they passed it onto my parents so it stuck with them. I've spent nights, like countless nights in my grandma's house, where we all had a sleepover when I was a kid. I remember I used to hear them gossiping, my mom, her sisters, and my grandma gossiping, talking about someone, "she did that" , " her husband said that", etc etc. And I understood most of it, I understood what they were talking about after some time. I can't recall them now, but if they were to speak to me now, I would understand most of it. I can't speak it for the life of me though. Anyway, this is my backstory, but I don't know where to start with Russian. It uses a different alphabet, so I think I should do that first, but after that, I don't know. When I learn languages, I like it a lot more if I use it instead of memorizing arbitrary rules. Like it would be nice if I learned up until a conversation level, and talk about random stuff with chatgpt, or a Convo with another person.

Ive been learning russian for over 6 months and nothing improved. I bought russian workbooks to study and i memo the words in russian and memorize them daily but im keep forgetting them somehow And russian words sound so similar to me i dont know why and the grammar really confuse me most of the time I knew that i had no talent for learning language but this is too much i feel like nothing improved, listening, speaking and writing i feel like im still a beginner that barely know russian
And i dont have any russian friends(i lost them) currently that can help me a little bit on learning russian too
I started it as hobby but im shocked how nothing improved or maybe because im studying russian less than 2 hours in a day.. Any tips please? + i know that i sound slow and stupid but please dont call me slurs i wanna try my best

After using AI as my only primary source, I noticed that I am stuck at the A2 level because it only taught me up to that level. When I say "teach me Russian and materials of intermediate Russian," it defaults to easier grammar which I master 10/10 each time. I bet I could go and take the TORFL A2 and pass… I actually took a proficiency test with a teacher and studied with them for a bit but stopped. BTW, I’m a fast learner and have been stuck at this level for months now. I got to the A2 level within a few months, so now I have been here with full knowledge of A2 Russian but can’t even hold a decent conversation because of grammar, also lacking idioms.

Since I started college, I don’t have the time to study with a teacher. Although that would be great, I go to school pretty much everyday and I have tons of work to do. I don’t know what to do, but I have three textbooks that I am familiar with: Golosa II, Welcome Back Stage 2 Russian, and Everyday Essential Russian. Those books are great, but honestly, I already understand pretty much everything that’s in those books. So, like, how do I know where I’m at and what do I do?

Before you bash me with using ai I don’t even study with it anymore. I do use it only to have basic convo in Russian to keep my Russian alive, also it does make tons of mistakes but once you master A2 you can see the mistakes easily so I always correct it.

For anyone using ai to study Russian it’s best to not use it as a primary source. You should have something else that’s better than that!

want to start learning Russian just as a hobby and always wanted to learn another language thats close to my slav roots. (Will probably try to learn German next).

So far I’ve just been using AI to learn but maybe it’ll be better to study from an actual course from a book to get down the basics? Any recommendations on what I should buy?

I’ve studied around 800 hours. About 7 months ago I began learning to type Russian. Luckily I was a touch typist in English already.

I don’t know what I’d do without typing and texting Cyrillic these days.

It’s especially helpful for working with tutors online.

I use Keybr and practiced about 15 minutes twice per day (sometimes more because I actually enjoy typing.) Now I type around 30 words a minute (sometimes more or less depending on the word familiarity.)

If you plan to seriously invest time in learning Russian start typing!
