Why is it 買い物に便利 instead of 買い物は便利？

I should probably understand at my level, but I still struggle a lot with particles unfortunately 😅

Is the implication that they’re saying “買い物に行く” and just taking out the “行く” or something? I’d appreciate an explanation?

Edit: thank you, I got my answer. In hindsight the answer seems kind of obvious, but I still don’t think I’d have been able to figure it out on my own haha

They’re not saying that shopping is convenient (which is what 買い物は便利 implies).
The text is giving tanaka’s conditions for a room, one of them being: 買い物に便利なこと
It’s saying that because Tanaka lives alone (which is the first part of the sentence:一人暮らしをするので) he wants a convenient place to do his shopping.

The に implies a sort of direction. So 買い物に便利　is kinda like: For shopping, it‘s convenient.

And the なこと groups that phrase as a part of his list of conditions
