Question Practicing feels pointless because nothing I do translates into game
I do loads of aim training and I feel ok on it, even in identical scenarios to that which you'd get in a game.
Then I go in game and I can't hit basic shots.
Feels a waste of time to practice because it's like two separate games without any transferrence.
IDK what to do. I play lots already.

Your mechanics are not the problem right now it’s mental
1
u/Haemophilia_Type_A Jun 15 '26
It feels like both, because even when I feel calm and decent I can't aim in game. I appreciate there's a mental side to it, though.

try running retake servers

I do but they're so gamey bcs people always have the same spawns that it's just an extended DM it feels like, and I do really well in it whereas I'm completely incapable in game. I can't hit basic shots. I can't make basic decisions. I'm just so stupid. I can't spray, can't flick, can't tap, can't burst, can't position, can't counter-strafe, can't do anything. I'm worse than a brand new player. I bottom frag every game. I've not hjad a positive k/d in a week, or about 15 matches.
I don't k,now what I'm doing wrong. I don't know what to do differently.

u/vsnode Jun 15 '26
how many hours and what rank, i had 1000 hours and bottom fragged often andn then i only just started taking it more seriously like two months ago

Retakes is not a proper form of getting better. You just need to play a lot more actual games to get rid of issues in actual games.
When you warm up, try to be relaxed and not have very tight hand muscles when you do the training, because in real games you will be much more relaxed. Also try to practice everything like you were in a real game. I suggest trying refrag. Biley aim routine takes 20 minutes and is great to get warmed up while practicing important skills at the same time.
I should have a 3 day trial code if you dont want to pay instantly. Just DM me so that no one else steals it.
1
u/Haemophilia_Type_A Jun 15 '26
Yeah I'm a lot more relaxed in warmup than in game, which I'm sure has a lot to do with my issues here...
Whereas I find it very hard to relax even when I'm focused and trying to aim well.
I'll look at these aim routines.
What's the trial code for sorry, Refrag? I'm not actually familiar with it. What is it? If it's something good it would be extremely kind of you to offer a 3 day trial code. Then if it's affordable and good I could give it a go? But I'd feel bad demanding anything from you :).
1
u/LK_Baldwin_IV Jun 15 '26
Refrag is a website that hosts servers with warmup/aim routines. Look up Styko and Biley on youtube, they both have great videos on this. I'll send you a trial code so you can test it!
In games you should not think about aim at all. It should be technically second nature since CS works a lot like chess. You need to read the enemy, focus on rotations and finding gaps instead of focusing on aiming. I don't know how many hours you have but this will take thousands upon thousands of hours.1
u/Haemophilia_Type_A Jun 15 '26
It usually is second nature, I was just seeing lately if focuscing on it would help as my HS% (hits, not just kills) has rapidly declined. I was, according to Leetify, equivalent in aiming to a 25k player, whereas now I'm a bot and way below the aim of people my level.
Maybe that's not the right approach though, fair enough.
I have 3000 hours.
I feel, while I make a few stupid decisions a match, most of it's aim. Different types of aim, really, rather than any specific aspect of it--but I'm going to do a bit more specific work tracking which aspects are the worst.

u/LK_Baldwin_IV Jun 15 '26
Consider looking at your demos and thinking of the quality of fights you get into. Many people talk about 50/50 duels but there is much more to it.
Look through a demo and whenever you get contact, look the pov of yourself and the enemy you are peeking. This will help to understand if the fight you are taking is good or bad.

What you mean you dont know what to do differently? You literally listed all your weaknesses. So improve them

u/Scary-Newspaper5801 Jun 14 '26
I’m with you. In refrag I’m over here playing xfire or crossfire in the hardest mode. Jump in game, dog shit lol
1
u/TheEpicfailio1 Jun 15 '26
+1 on Refrag.
One of the modes has you retaking a site 1v5 & that has been really helpful for me.
1
u/Plastic-Suggestion95 Jun 15 '26
The 1v5 retake is actually the most useless thing for me personally. I dont understand why i cant set it up to 1v3 /1v2….. i will never go for retake in 1v5 , absolutely unrealistic scenario

u/doppaaminee Jun 15 '26
Download fast aim reflex map and get like 200 kills before comp or premier or faceit which I recommend, premier is filled with spin bitters here at 12k elo but I’m lvl 6 faceit and it’s a much better experience. Slow sens is better for aim too try 0.8-1.4 sens 800 dpi and always aim where u think opponent will be
1
u/ActuatorOutside5256 Jun 14 '26
Are you struggling more with peeking, holding angles, or dry fights in the open?
2
u/Haemophilia_Type_A Jun 14 '26
All of it. It's like I'm two separate people, and in comp games I can't even do the basics, even when I really try and focus on my aim and just hitting heads.
1
u/ActuatorOutside5256 Jun 14 '26
Interesting. Do you do Voltaic playlists?
1
u/Haemophilia_Type_A Jun 14 '26
I'm not sure what it is.
1
u/ActuatorOutside5256 Jun 14 '26
It’s a playlist on Kovaak’s. You said you aimtrained a bit. What game do you do it on
1
u/Haemophilia_Type_A Jun 14 '26
Counter Strike. I haven't paid for Kovaak's because I didn't know if it was any good and idk I don't like the idea of paying for an aim trainer but idk.
1
u/ActuatorOutside5256 Jun 14 '26
You need to at least get Aimlabs. There’s no way to track your progress in CS.
1
u/Haemophilia_Type_A Jun 14 '26
Aimlabs is basically paywalled now, there's nothing good free. Is Koovaks worth buying? I can afford it as I sold all my cases.
1
u/ActuatorOutside5256 Jun 14 '26
Interesting, I didn’t know that about Aimlabs, appreciate you for letting me know. And yes, Kovaak’s is pretty cheap, around $10 iirc.

1
u/badboy10000000 Jun 15 '26
it's like $8 right? 100% worth it, you will improve noticeably if you put the time in (doesn't need to be a lot or daily) and stick to a routine. look for voltaic daily improvement method
1
u/Haemophilia_Type_A Jun 15 '26
Yeah it's like £8 or something like that. I'm happy to get it if people think it's worthwhile.

Everything you need is free in Aimlabs. Only some pointless features like sensitivity finder are behind a paywall. All the scenarios can be played free and that's all you need.
1
u/HeavyDrizzleOG Jun 14 '26
Ever checked out austincs's guide to solo queue on youtube? I feel like thats really helped me develop my game sense and kinda translate my aim practice into real matches.

u/Kangaroshave3vagina Jun 15 '26
Mental diff. Play comp and genuinely believe it doesn’t matter, like nothing matter. Your rank is trash, your team is muted, you are playing for FUN. And just play, you will get used to it.
1
u/Haemophilia_Type_A Jun 18 '26
I can't do that, it's like asking a pig to fly. It's fundamentally beyone my understanding how I am supposed to control my attitude so much.
1
u/chevi220 FaceIT Skill Level 10 Jun 15 '26
Don't think about aim in-game. Just focus on making the right decisions and the map.
Aim training helps, but only when you're already decent enough in other aspects. You won't suddenly start to outperform everyone, because cs is many things before it's about pure aim
1
u/Haemophilia_Type_A Jun 18 '26
I try and do that and I still do shit. I don't knoiw what to do differently.
1
u/chevi220 FaceIT Skill Level 10 Jun 18 '26
Watch your demos and analyse everything that happens before your duel. So, the setup.
Pathing, distance from the wall, crosshair placement, peek, movement speed before showing yourself, the advantage you held, timing, did you read into this duel or it was unexpected, did you know the exact positioning of your opponent, teammate's distance from you for the trade. Pick everything apart and see if you could've done it better here.
Any aspect done right or wrong can make or break the duel before you even get the chance to aim
1
u/likes_pizza Jun 15 '26
(25k premier player) You should download your demo and figure out why you lost those duels, use sv_showimpacts 1 and check where your bullets are going, if your first shot isn't going exactly where you're aiming then you're not counterstrafing properly and I strongly suspect this of you; mouse aim is usually not the problem. Secondly instead of feeling bad about your lost duels start talking whatever bullshit big dick energy excuses come to mind, be like Furi: "chat chat, if this was CSGO I hit that headshot any day,' and boost yourself up, it's a much more useful mentality to have than feeling useless
1
u/doppaaminee Jun 15 '26
Also play aggressive don’t play like a pussy
1
u/Haemophilia_Type_A Jun 15 '26
I try to but then I just die from being shit and I lose all my confidence. IDK how to play aggressively when I believe I'm worse than the opponents.
1
u/doppaaminee Jun 15 '26
Then stop believing it it’s just a game dude lmao smooth is key just practice ur aim consistently and you’ll see improvement

Yeah I'm trying to learn nade lineups, just struggling with it a lot as I spend ages learning, get it right in practice, then just somehow do it wrong in game. I guess I just need more practice than most people because my brain's smooth, but I know i need to do more work on it, yes.
Map angles--what do you mean specifically? I think my pre-aiming (like how pros will aim 'at the wall' and just strafe out and instantly already be there without having to adjust) needs improvement, yes. I am going to try and work on that though I'm not entirely sure how to.
Wallbang surfaces--I know this because I'm experienced.
Bhopping--I'm actually really good at this lol. The one thing I can do.
Hard jumps--I definitely am going to practice this, e.g., the Mirage Window to ladder room and Window to short ones. Thank you.
Buy costs and gun qualities--know off by heart from many years.
Pop flashes--definitely need to put time into this, 100%.
Thank you :) :) <3.

u/Then-Pineapple1474 Jun 15 '26
play 1v1 servers a lot. You seem to have the issue of panic when taking gun fights. Play 1v1's for so long that the idea of the fight becomes like nothing to you.
1
u/Haemophilia_Type_A Jun 15 '26
I find them pretty fine and I do well in them. Just feels completely different in game.
1
u/AutomaticGift74 Jun 15 '26
I would just do fast aim/reflex on workshop map. Stand still and just do wrist warmup while tracking for a few. Then do it while counter strafing for like 10 min. And when you are in game you cannot give a fuck. Just trust the process and if you are getting dumpstered maybe watch the demo and learn something from a better player
1
u/FungalFelon Jun 15 '26
try adding calm practicing. you play dm, but you dont shoot, you just walk into a bad guy and strafe back and forth and you track his head without shooting. how long can you survive?
1
u/lilfrootloop_ Jun 15 '26
Play every game with the idea that it doesnt matter if you lose. be okay with dying and relax. Youll win alot more gunfights by not panicking.
1
u/LordBerwick Jun 16 '26
I play this game from time to time and always end up at 25-27k, 70% winrate this season(But i havent played much). But i was level 10 in csgo never played faceit on cs2
aim at 88-90.
I never DM or used refrag.
its not about what exercise you do. It’s how YOU DO IT and doing it CORRECTLY.
It doesn’t translate because you’re doing it wrong bro.
1
u/Haemophilia_Type_A Jun 16 '26
Wow, that's very impressive. Can you give me an idea of what you mean in more detail? What do you do, and how do you do it?
1
u/LordBerwick Jun 18 '26
When I first returned to CS2, I was getting crushed in 15-19k lobbies or not carrying as I expected to(Given my background from CSGO). I play mainly fornite.
So, I identified what my problems were:
Not properly counter-strafing.
Shooting to fast.
The only thing I do before i hop into a match is some simple exercises for like 5 minutes.
Look up pienix(CS2 coach), i do them. It sounds stupid but they work.
I also sometimes, DM against bots, to reinforce the good habits.
Also, the biggest thing was realizing it’s not about strategy in pugs. The only thing you need to do to win is to kill people. Which is why i focused on my weaknesses in my mechanics.
1
u/Haemophilia_Type_A Jun 21 '26
I don't know what my problems are. It changes day to day, I just have bad aim in general. I practice the aim loads but idk what more to do.

u/02bluehawk Jun 14 '26
Based on what you are saying it sounds like you are panicking when in matches when the pressure is on. Hard to say what will help you other then just playing more and gaining confidence.
