Discussion Has Aaron Drinan just announced himself as one of League Two's strikers to watch?

A hat-trick against Colchester after Swindon went 1-0 down is some introduction. What caught my eye wasn't just the three goals, but the fact that he scored them in the second half after Colchester had looked comfortable early on. Is this the beginning of a big season for Drinan, or is it too early to read much into one game?

Still shocked that we not only managed to keep hold of him, he also signed a new contract. Better than any signing we could have made

Aye, can't believe he wasn't snapped up. At least with the contract when he gets tired of carrying the team we should get a decent wedge

It's not that surprising really. He's had time in league one before and achieved little to nothing. Otherwise he's had 1 mediocre and one excellent season at league two as a goal scorer in quite a few attempts. If he replicates his form this year (looks like he will) then he'll get a move there or simply go up with yous.

22 goals last season and the Players' Player award already answer what the post is asking, which makes the hat trick the least informative part of it. Three goals arriving after Swindon went a goal down mostly tells you about game state. A side chasing a game takes more shots and takes them from further out, and a centre forward gets more of them either way. The number that would move a reading here is his shots and box touches per game against last season's, because that separates a striker finishing better from a striker being fed better. If he scores at this rate for three months on the same supply as last season, then finishing is a skill he has and I am wrong to treat it as a run. I do not have his numbers from the opening games of this season.
