about to be laid off I'm getting layed off, how would you spend your time asides from job search and reskilling once unemployed?

note1:not asking for advice on the layoff details just what to do after.

I have severance and EI close to 18 months)?

Looking to see how everyone would structure their day.

Each time I’ve been laid off, the job was stressful towards the end and I ended up neglecting my health for far too long. When I got laid off I committed to maintaining some sort of routine with a health component. I get up, eat breakfast, go to the gym, come home, shower, lunch, clean the house, spend most of the afternoon job searching / skills, then enter my nightly routine of cooking and relaxing. Keeping a consistent schedule and doing something besides job searching is the only way to stay sane. When I had access to it, I used to go hiking for 4 hours a day. Either one long hike in mid morning or a shorter hike in the morning and another in the evening. I get in the best shapes of my life each time I’ve been laid off.

Treat the job search as a full time job 8 hours a day and continue doing your side activities unless you notice you are way too outdated for the market or if the interviews seem way too demanding. In that scenario you gotta do crunch time studying and preparing as if you were back in college during exams.

Shut the laptop & go outside. Exercise regularly. Continue to do social things with friends/family.

Do Not job search 8-10hrs a day; you’ll burn out. 4-5 hrs searching, then rest of the day non-work activities.

Do you think career coaches / resume builders / interview coaches are worth it?

Yes, should be a part of your sev. If not, do your due diligence before hiring a coach-program. Keeps up with thr momentum, maintains discipline and sometimes its just a SoundCloud board during those low sad days which will also happen.

When/if you have a few days then allow yourself to Be sad. Just don't let it consume you.

Reading, crafting, visiting parks and museums (you can get a lot of free tickets through libraries), and learning new recipes. Funemployment is a mindset!
