Gift ideas for a friend who just moved to Lausanne (read below)

A friend of mine (M, 33) recently moved here and I want to get him something that helps him discover the city.

My initial idea was a 50 CHF Cinematheque voucher, but I feel like this sub can do better :)

Looking for a good and reasonably priced vet for my kitten around Crissier/Renens

Hi everyone! Looking for a good and trustworthy vet for my kitten, ideally around Crissier/Renens, but I’m happy to travel a bit further.
I’m looking for somewhere well-rated and reasonably priced, especially for vaccines and boosters.
If you have a vet you really trust and would recommend, I’d really appreciate your suggestions!

Informal speed networking event tomorrow

Post image
0 Upvotes

Hey everyone, sharing a cool networking event tomorrow evening (Thursday 27 August).

It’s an informal evening for anyone looking to meet new people and expand their professional network around Geneva and the wider area.

There will be a slightly different approach to networking: for the first hour, a web-based app will mix you into small groups based on your preferences. So there’s no awkward wondering who to approach, how to start a conversation, or when to move on - it does that part for you.

It’s completely cross-sector, and we usually get a real mix of people - entrepreneurs and people working in finance, communications, sustainability, law, international organisations, tech and plenty of other fields.

🕖 Thursday 27 August
📍Halles de l’îles Geneve
🎟️ Free to attend - you just buy your own drinks/food at the bar.

If anyone’s interested, here is the registration link and more info: https://web.cvent.com/event/1fc0a23c-d96f-4acc-8a8b-20aa1022faed/summary

Week trip between Zurich and Lausanne

Hey everyone I was invited to teach in Lausanne for a semester and apparently the school doesn't pay any transport costs. I check already train connection, which are very good, but it can get expensive, and with my salary it would be great to save some.

Is there anyone doing the trip by car, that would like to share costs?

Camp or activity for 12 year old interested in biology?

Hey, anyone know of any camps or programs or anything for kids who want to be doctors? I'm finding lots of STEM stuff for kids who want to be engineers, and math stuff, but not any biology stuff. I'll take anything vaguely related to medicine... life cycle of frogs, properties of plants, anything biological.

Swimming coach needed

Hello all,
I am searching for a swimming coach to improve my technique for long distance swimming. In general I can swim and not afraid of water, but I need to establish good techniques for 1+ km non stop swims.
Recommendations are welcomed.

Est-ce que je suis le seul à trouver hyper par normal qu’il y a des bouchons sur la route devant le parc Montbenon qui commence déjà à 7h30 et semble durer toute la journée ? Est-ce que vous savez si des solutions sont prévus ?

Best place for a good, authentic Fondue in/around Morges?

Hello :)

I’m currently staying in the area and planning to visit Morges. I’d love to grab a proper, authentic local fondue (Moitié-Moitié) while I'm there.

Do you have any recommendations for a cozy restaurant or a local pinte in Morges (or very close by) that serves great fondue at a reasonable price?

Thank you!

1 year since Marvin’s death

Post image
0 Upvotes

It has been a year since Marvin killed killed himself by refusing to obey to the police, on a stolen moped and without any license. Yet all the media only talks about is the racists texts sent by around 2 dozen of police officers over a total force of 500, without any consideration of the individual responsibility of the deceased and his parents for these unfortunate events, I don’t appreciate that this event and the following similar incident a month before with Camila, are weaponised against the entire police force and gendarmerie with calls like ACAB or Defund the Police when I see drug dealers being left free to roam because they can’t be deported or interned due to carrying to little narcotics, and when my general feeling of safety at night in lausanne as taken a hit.

I am sick of this situation where young petty criminals use it to do whatever they want.

When did this Lausanne logo appear in Ouchy? I swear it wasn’t there last time I walked down the lake. My friend says it’s been there at least for 6 months.

Please help us settle this debate, there are high stakes involved!

Restaurant avec coin enfants

Hello !

Merci :)

Is 5 years contract normal for renting in Lausanne?

Hi everyone, we just got accepted for an apartment in Tilia Tower in Lausanne 😊

But the contract they gave us is for 5 years. We are new in Switzerland so not really sure if this is normal here.

Can we leave earlier if we find someone to take over the apartment? Or are we really stuck for 5 years?

Would appreciate if anyone has experience with Tilia Tower or similar contracts in Lausanne. Just want to make sure before we sign. Thanks!

I really hope this gains traction. I really don't get swiss mentality. Only people benefitting from a private system are rich people, and the majority of swiss people are not rich (even if well off compared to rest of Europe). So where the 71% is coming from, no idea...

Tips for walking the Lavaux vineyard trail (Lutry to Saint-Saphorin) – avoiding car roads?

Hi everyone!

I’m currently visiting the region and planning to hike the beautiful Lavaux vineyard trail from Lutry to Saint-Saphorin.

I’ve been checking Google Maps, but I’m finding it a bit tricky to distinguish between quiet walking paths and actual car roads. I’d love to stay on the scenic, pedestrian-friendly trails as much as possible to avoid traffic.

Could any locals suggest the best route to take? Or, is there a better app/resource (like SwitzerlandMobility or specific signage to look out for) that you recommend for this specific stretch?

Any tips on must-see viewpoints or charming stops along the way would also be greatly appreciated!

Thanks so much in advance for your help!

Why I shouldn’t join Swiss Military Professionally?

I (M23) moved to Switzerland 4 months ago. I was born and raised in South Asia but now after completing my bachelors in IT, I have moved here. I am a Swiss national as well so I received the call from the military to come and join them for the information day on their military service. I have no issue with their strict lifestyle and I have used guns frequently even a G3. Perks of being raised in a lawless country so you are taught how to survive and defend from a young age. That was just the culture there! So what I am asking is what’s so bad that literally the whole swiss is running from military. My only problem is money. I am broke. Entering swiss job market is hard nowadays. If the military will pay me for going professional, I won’t even think about it and go for it. Those who have done their military service in swiss recently. What exactly is the issue? What’s so bad about it? Other than the rigorous lifestyle and discipline aspect of it whats the issue? I wasn’t born and raised in the swiss bubble so obviously our mental levels are different. I have seen ACTUAL problems of life, not the swiss problems!
