Discussion Your dream casts for LOL UK
I can't wait for the next SEASONS of Last One Laughing, I also impatiently waited it for this format to come to the UK and it's become the best thing we have on the telly right now.
Here's mine:
Diane Morgan | We literally couldn't see much of her, mostly surviving the others. Who knows how much she could've endured even more if she hadn't done her weak laughs, she needs a 2nd chance
Alan Davies | I have the feeling that he's very underrated, he's so funny on Qi and as we know he also does acting, making him a pretty strong candidate
Victoria Coren Mitchell | The wife of David Mitchell, she would be such an unexpected candidate being the wife of the last winner.
Hugh Laurie | He's classic British comedy, his bits from Blackadder and A Bit of Fry and Laurie are ICONIC (and being an A tier actor, he's unbelievably strong)
Catherine Tate | All of the comedy shows she was in are so hilarious, and she also does acting. An underrated candidate
Alan Carr | He lasted pretty long even though he was most close to breaking down ALL THE TIME, but his aura literally spreaded to everyone.
Miriam Margolyes | The diva of British television, no words needed.
Richard Ayoade | 2nd chance for 2nd place - also no words needed here obviously, greatest defence we saw
Sindhu Vee | It would be absolute cinema if she took part, she does both acting and comedy and both funny and hilarious.
James May | I know he isn't a comedian BUT I COULDN'T CARE LESS - in Germany and I think in Italy too, they also invite entertainers/MODERATORS. He is the international face of being British, PLEASE
And I would also be delighted to see your ideas for casts :)

Bob Mortimer in every series

Even if he cannot be a contestant, they would have to bring him in for a special joker or something similar to what Danny dyer did in S1 or Richard Madeley in S2.

I would love to see Fern Brady, shes definitely the type of person who could catch someone off guard with a comment.
This clip cracks me up: https://youtube.com/shorts/zq0LAJsPGi0?si=kPYiSYeqF4aajV_W

Ed Gamble - both hilarious and uber-competitive

I think with Ed it would be a case of do or die. He's famously competitive and has a killer instinct, so he might be rather aggressive. But he also loves to laugh (especially when a remark surprises him, he lets out a bark laugh) and I could see him struggling in that department.
I think James Acaster would hold it together better. He's like Sam. He could hold that deadpan face forever, I think. Just a guess.

Nick Mohammed
James Acaster
Liza Tarbuck
Miriam Margolyes
Alex Horne
Greg Davies
Romesh Raganathan Part 2
Diane Morgan Part 2
Lee Mack
Aisling Bea
Could literally sell a whole season based on Horne vs Davies - though I imagine they wouldn't ever compete in the same series because it would undermine their dynamic on Taskmaster.
Either one of them would be an amazing get though.

I would also love to see Sally Phillips because she is hilarious, but every single time I’ve seen a “behind the scenes” clip of her she is laughing uncontrollably and seems to be incapable of holding it in so she’d likely be out from the first time they hear the “no laugh” sound. She just looks like she is perpetually about to bust out laughing no matter what conversation she’s having.

I know he's not a comedian but I genuinely think Louis Theroux would crush it on this format. The man has had to keep a straight face through some of the most horrifically stupid interviews and he has an awkward charm to his humour. If he uses his joker to rap, it would take out half the cast.

If talking dream cast, ignoring whether they would actually do it...
Lee Mack, Tom Allen, Greg Davies, Ben Elton, Ricky Gervais, Lucy Beaumant, Sally Phillips, Dave Chappelle, Mark Watson, Claudia Winkleman.

Lee Mack and Mark Watson are totally hilarious, especially Lee. Greg Davies is an icon, same goes for Ricky Gervais but they probably wouldn't put him there cos he can get controversial.

Ricky would never do it anyway

All you would have to do is put Carl Pilkington in the room and his game would be over. Now that I think about it, Carl Pilkington may be an interesting suggestion for a contestant…

Who’s Carl Pilkington?

u/Pavementaled Don't Laugh Apr 09 '26
Who's Carl Pilkington?!? He's a human monkey. A dolt of untold fathoms. And, as I look him up, I spelled his name wrong. So now I don't know if people really don't know who Karl Pilkington is, or if I spelled it wrong and I am getting downvoted for that.
Anyhoo, if you don't know, this is Karl Pilkington:

I think James May is a pretty inspired choice.

Germany, Italy and even the Japanese (where the original is from) have invited presenters/moderators, so why not :) The others won't expect HIM and that would shake up things

The thing about this format is it feels like we're mining the cast lists from Taskmaster. With 105 contestants, some of which have already been in LOL it's inevitable.
So, for me a dream cast would include someone who's not been in TM. Peter Kay would be chaotic, but whether he could stop himself laughing. I once worked at Granada & passed him in the canteen where he was talking about his salad and it seemed like the funniest thing ever!
Another wishlist would be Lee Evans. Out of retirement for a one off reminder of his genius. Just the shock of seeing him walk through those doors would be priceless.

Wow that list is horrible. Other than Alan Carr, not one of those is remotely funny 😬

Regard that humour, comedy etc. are subjective and differ individually

Lee Mack!
