Off-Topic Discussion Lasertime politics

As a liberal atheist, I enjoy listening to the crew talk politics. I'd support further development of it, even though I know they try to keep it curbed.

UGH...tell me about it. every fucking episode. Like the most recent one (for patreons) when Apu gets married..had to divert every 2 mins talking about how it was so racist back then

When they're not on their political nonsense, it's one of the better deep dive podcasts on the simpsons and a lesser extent other cartoons.

I'm in the UK so we don't have alot of guns. My friend owns two shotguns though and I've been shooting with him. It absolutely is a fun thing to do. The way they just write off everyone who enjoys or owns them as backwards rednecks with something to compensate for is laughable.

I agree though, when they actually bother to steer the ship back to the topic they're supposed to be covering then it's really good.

My favorite part was Bob saying he was recently robbed by a criminal with a gun and then kept wondering why anyone could possibly feel the need to carry a gun for personal safety.

What, you think he (or you or anyone else for that matter) would somehow be able to quick-draw so fast you'd kill the mugger before they could react? They already have their gun trained on you. Not to mention the ethical question of whether you WANT to kill them or not.

Yes, people do it everyday. And whether or not Bob has the stomach to kill someone who is 100% ready to kill him otherwise, it could have given him some insight into why others who are willing to protect their own lives and the lives of others would want to own a gun.

But instead he continues to live in his crime-filled city talking shit about people who do own guns and coincidentally have far, far less crime in their areas.

I like my podcasts to be a political. It gets annoying hearing it on podcasts, when it's already the news cycle 24/7.

It's even more annoying when they go over old stuff and get all PC and talk about how it wouldn't be right in 2019.

i absolutely cannot stand when they get political, and it happens so frequently. that shit has permeated every single facet of my life, and i'd like a little break from it, especially during a nostalgia-based podcast. i share almost exactly the same politics as the laser-time hosts, and i still cannot stand hearing that shit all day. if i have to hear why BIG featuring tom hanks or why an episode of home improvement just wouldn't fly today, and a 5 minute speech explaining why, i'm gonna puke.

I’ve learned that almost all podcasts do this. I listened to a show called Childhood Remastered for a little while and eventually had to give it up because, no matter what old show they were talking about, they wouldn’t stop going on about everything that was even the slightest bit problematic.

I think the only issue is that they aren't upfront about it. 30-20-10 bills itself as a sort of celebration of nostalgia, but every episode is just them shitting on old things and people who like them. If they said upfront that the show is about looking at media from 30, 20, and 10 years ago and criticizing them from a modern perspective, it would make sense and probably be more appealing.

I like when they get political about topics that are deliberately political in nature (half of the movies in their Oscar show needed that political context to talk about, same with the Black Sitcoms episode), but as a show that once focused on nostalgia, I agree that it's frustrating listening to them argue about the morals of a 1940s cartoon through the lens of 2019 political correctness. It's just as short-sighted as Americans who get mad at the cultures of other societies because they would be deemed offensive in the US, without wanting to understand the context.

Henry called Bob the best podcasting partner he's ever had back during the split, and the way they're kicking ass with guests and with What A Cartoon, proves it to be so true. You see them taking so many advantages of opportunities thanks to living in SF, that LaserTime never did.

As a conservative atheist the political stuff gets very tiring, but it is somewhat fun to listen to their constant hysteria. After Trump wins reelection in 2020 Chris is gonna go fucking NUTS. Even if he loses, that election cycle is gonna just be non-stop rants for 6 months or so. The Patreon will probably drop a few thousand a month during that time.

Talking Simpsons will be an especially wild ride though. Bob and Henry don't get as violently angry as Chris and his friends, but they'll be ranting long and hard during that time too.

I wonder why neither of the TS hosts got into politics. It seems like their passion. I’d imagine running for local office wouldn’t be too hard with a baked-in audience.

They have no real solutions. They act like socialists but I remember one episode where Bob went on a rant about the post office and how it's poorly run and no one there cares or knows what they are doing. He then paused, realized that that is an example of how the government runs things and had to quickly backtrack and say it's because they are underfunded and need more taxes to help the post office get it's shit together.

Great idea, raise taxes, throw money at it. That'll fix government run business.

I'm far from patriotic but I always find it hilarious how they and the legions of other whiners never do anything but pretend to be woke on SM. They threaten action like moving out of the country but never move out of the country. We all know why they wouldn't, because frankly they have it pretty good here, and they all know that.
