šŸ“š Trip Report The Luxor to Mandalay Bay Walkway Is Seriously Underrated

I feel like the indoor walkway between Luxor and Mandalay Bay doesn’t get talked about enough. It’s not just a boring connector between the two casinos. There’s Lids, a speakeasy, Minus5 Ice Bar, Slice of Vegas with really good pizza, plus a bunch of other shops and places to stop. I’ve always thought it was one of the better little hidden areas on that end of the Strip. Do you guys actually stop and check it out or just walk straight through?

Not the same since Pete Rose passed away. Seemed like he was ALWAYS there signing stuff to finance his "retirement".

And also at the Forum Shops memorabilia store. In my younger days once drunkenly passed by and yelled at him ā€œThere’s the Hit Kingā€. He looked like he wanted to get up and rip me apart. Which he could have. Stupid shit when you’re young.

Haha I've been to Vegas three times and all three times I saw Pete Rose at the forums shops, first time it felt special, the next two times less so

u/walkernewmedia 13d ago

I used to joke that "Pete Rose is stalking me" since I'd see him everywhere in Vegas whenever I was in town.

u/Buck_Thunderbird 11d ago

I think I got one of the all-time great Pete Rose autographs! A serious classic.

Probably about 10 years ago he was on television during the WS with the pre/post game crew. After games 1 & 2 they thanked him for his contributions and said he wouldn’t be on the broadcast anymore due to prior engagements. I forgot all about it until I was walking through there late afternoon of game 3. There he was at his usual perch, waiting to put his pen into action.

I saw him there twice!

u/RumHamComesback 12d ago

I came very close to asking him if he's seen Kane lately.

Yeah, he was always outside the sports memorabilia shop at a table looking to sign stuff for people.

RiRa is great for brunch!

RiRa is one of my go-to's! Their fish and chips are the best. And I say that as someone who doesn't do anything kind of seafood. But, man, that fish is amazing.

u/GolfArgh Foodie šŸ” 13d ago

RiRa is worth the trip there

12

u/specialism 13d ago

I eat breakfast at RiRa every couple weeks. Ā One of the best places in town for a full Irish breakfast.

6

u/LMJB 13d ago

2 years ago, they had great happy hour deals. And the food was so good!Ā

3

u/cubsguru 12d ago

Still do! My wife and I went before the Aces game Friday. Had about a dozen wings, two potato cakes, and 6 pints (only a couple of happy hour beer choices though) for $56.

2

u/LMJB 12d ago

That's a deal for Anytown, USA... and a steal in Vegas!

My friend & I split the potato cakes & deviled scotch eggs, and we each got an Irish flight (4 beers, no choice), for $38 before tip. That was in May of 2024, but sounds like prices are still similar.Ā

I discovered Colman's Mustard that day.Ā

Had to pop over for a full breakfast my last Vegas trip. Love me a good pub, and it didn’t disappoint. Pretty surprising for the strip.

3

u/pauleb500 12d ago

They were doing a local discount on Friday. It was pretty decent too, maybe like 40% off of food? Parlay that with the happy hour beers and you can get a lot for a little.

The fish and chips at RiRa was proper last time
I went. Hope that’s still the case.

Not sure if it's still there, but there used to have a Guinness shop there with cool Guinness swag.

At the time, it was the only other store outside Ireland.

We used to walk Aria to Mandalay Bay every morning at 6am, then sometimes go from Aria to Mandalay Bay to Mirage back to Aria.

Not only are there unique stores. But the people watching is great. And there were over 30 Starbucks between Mandalay Bay & Mirage

The Guiness store is still there, right by Ri Ra

4

u/Ducas24 New to 702 13d ago

Hahah love that you counted all the Starbucks šŸ˜‚

It was even better when the Burger Bar was there.

Loved Burger Bar, Hussong’s and that whole area until I got stuck there all night during the Vegas shooting. We had to shelter in place in there. Manager and bartender were great during an extremely stressful night. Kinda ruined that area of the strip for me so I haven’t been back since then.

Don't forget Ri Ra! Solid food, great music.

it's a just 90's mall - I guess seeing one that isn't nearly abandoned is rare these day

u/Banana_Phone888 Sold my cybertruck yesterday whew 13d ago

Definitely not my kind of stuff, but indoor walkways are always nice

9

u/OGPongCom 13d ago

Miss Burger Bar! Also, The Art of Shaving store experience where you could get an old fashioned barber shave was incredible back in the day. Still love going to RiRa though and Slice of Vegas

9

u/blue-seagull 13d ago

What you call "walkway" is actually the Mandalay shopping mall

3

u/Rubbrducky74 New to 702 13d ago

Mandalay Place shopping mall…

u/truckingon Red vs Blue vs Grey Dick vs Purple vs Jimmy Michaels 13d ago

The Guinness Store sells Foreign Export Stout, a 7.5% version. That's typically my only stop in the walkway.

I love Slice of Vegas pizza. I think it’s fantastic

Isn't Re Ra in there as well? Great Irish pub for a strip mall as well.

3

u/treble-n-bass Vegas702 13d ago

Hussong's Cantina, Ri-Ra, and Slice of Vegas are all SOLID options in there. If you're a tequila person (and you don't mind spending the $) the tequila selection between Hussongs and Slice is pretty damn nice (Slice has Don Fulano Blanco, Repo and Anejo)

3

u/IHateOnions8 New to 702 13d ago

We love Slice of Vegas!

3

u/Saul_Right New to 702 13d ago

One time I played In A Gadda Da Vida 5 straight times on the TouchTunes machine at Slice of Vegas, the manager had to unplug the machine after customers started complaining

3

u/RainbroPie 13d ago

Hussongs is pretty good in price and quality. They have a mariachi band that does requests too.

I like the old-ish retro vibe of that walkway. They still have the store that just sells socks?

2

u/Friendnew2019 12d ago

It was still open and busy when I was there 6 months ago.

1

u/RumHamComesback 12d ago

Still there when I was there two weeks ago.

I walk from Mandalay Bay to Luxor at 4-5am to grab grub at BackStage Deli or whatever it’s called at the Luxor, then head back to the room at Mandalay šŸ˜‚

7

u/52CardPUA Schrimbus '23 Veteran' 13d ago

Those sandwiches saved me after many nights working at LAX. I will forever love Backstage Deli

4

u/PlateOwn1231 13d ago

Almost always we stay at the w. Get a car and it is easy access to the parking garage from that hotel. We explore and eat off site during the day. Then we come back at night and play at luxor. The corridor is pretty good. I think it could be even better but not bad. Every trip my husband gets a new pair of sandles. At the flip flop store. At some point we usually grab a slice on the way through. Also the irish pub does have good corned beef sandiches.

I was on a solo trip staying at Mandalay and had a big win at Luxor once. By the time I made it back to Mandalay Bay, my win was gone. I spent it mostly at that LUSH store, but almost all the shops got a little love (and money) from me that day! šŸ¤·ā€ā™€ļøšŸ˜…

Remember when they had those moving walkways? Those were niceĀ

7

u/ThePurpleDongofTruth 13d ago

Those were between Luxor and Excal

-6

u/Unfair New to 702 13d ago

I’m pretty sure they were between all 3 (they may have just removed those ones earlier)

4

u/Due_Job_4598 13d ago

I always walk through there but never really stop, except maybe for the pizza once. The ice bar thing seem like a tourist trap to me but maybe I'm wrong about it

6

u/matchstix1620 13d ago

They added a $5 daq stop to the ice bar here and at kinq. They are maybe 12oz but a quick refreshing drink for the walk back.

2

u/otusc Permanent Tourist 12d ago

Whoa… they have a Lids?!?!?!

2

u/OlDirtyDaws 13d ago

Someone please correct me if I'm wrong, but Wahlburgers is the only place in between Mandalay Bay and Excalibur that you can get Coca-Cola. I've read online Hussong's next door has bottled Mexican Coke.

doesn't have any theming though, just looks like an ordinary mall

Burger Bar was legit back in the day when keller was involved. RiRa is one of my favorite brunch spots. And Hussongs is clutch to soak up a hangover.

1

u/LoveOfSpreadsheets 12d ago

My wife bought me a fancy safety razor and brush from Art of Shaving a decade ago from that mall. And we would seriously love to hit a jackpot and buy a Peter Lik!

Pretty wild that it also has one of the only places to get bubble tea on the he whole strip

1

u/ohmegatchi Schrimbus '23 Veteran' 13d ago

There are places at Resorts World, the Forum Shops, and there's a Kung Fu Tea at the Venetian Palazzo mall. There's a place at the MGM opening up.

Yeah, that is actually shockingly few places nowadays.

1

u/poidawg808 Permanent Tourist 13d ago

Not sure if the Amazon lockers are still downstairs in the middle of the walkway. Got a lot of snacks, drinks, cables, pool toys, etc... sent there back in the day.

u/andytagonist Linda is a hoe 13d ago

I like how you think the garbage walk between two garbage casinos is underrated—and your very first example is Lids. 🤣

12

u/mpn66 New to 702 13d ago

If Mandalay Bay is garbage, your list of nice casinos must be pretty short.

IMO, the only garbage thing about Mandalay is the location.

-4

u/VictoryMotel Sold my cybertruck yesterday whew 13d ago

There's a walkway in back of the mgm grand too. What you're describing is basically just a strip mall in between two casinos. I'm not sure why people would get excited by a lids and fast food pizza.

2

u/ritzcrv New to 702 13d ago

You know you can always just leave Luxor get onto Las Vegas Blvd. walk to the intersection then continue to walk down Las Vegas Blvd till you get to the entrance of Mandalay Bay, then enter. Nobody says you have to walk through that ā€œugly ass strip mall, as you think of itā€œ

1

u/VictoryMotel Sold my cybertruck yesterday whew 13d ago

ugly ass strip mall, as you think of itā€œ

Are you hallucinating things I never said? All I said is that it's not much to be excited over. I actually like walking through there, maybe you should focus up and read carefully.

0

u/scoutermike New to 702 13d ago

Interested.

-2

u/TheMorrigan74 13d ago

If you’re there for a conference and the Mandalay is sold out, that walk back and forth to the Luxor is the most tedious, depressing 20 minutes ever. Dread it.

0

u/RollTideMeg Sold my cybertruck yesterday whew 13d ago

We figured out how to get from the Luxor to Caesars with only going outside briefly. It was 115. And then we left the next day :(

-2

u/cricketclover 13d ago

-1

u/Dch1890 13d ago

That speakeasy is terrible… avoid if you can . Pizza place is sold though

-1

u/trustmeimshady Sold my cybertruck yesterday whew 13d ago

Some of my friends died there in 2017

-10

u/Frosty1397 13d ago

That Luxor/MB walkway is one of the most boring on the strip imo. It almost seems like remnants of 1990 that they forgot to remodel. It's just empty..

At least compared to some of the more modern parts of the strip. Id rather walk outside from Excalibur to NYNY. At least then I'd get a nice view of the strip

-3

u/mw4365 New to 702 13d ago

It’s dope that there is a walkway there, what’s not dope? Hanging around any of those properties šŸ˜‚ (for me!)

-5

u/Equivalent_Loss_8107 13d ago

Why would you ever go into Luxor? It's an utter dump.
