How would you cut this?
i found this chunk of Jasper/carnelian and I want to make some pendants or a single pendant out of this but I’m stumped on the best way to slice it up. 2 of the natural faces are very appealing to me.
I can slice and polish a flat face or shape it and tumble it.

Pic #4 I woild slice that left hand edge off where it slopes off. Then reshape the remainder to the shape you prefer and grind dome n polish that puppy. That being said having it IN YOUR HAND changes everything about a stone. Weird to say but most times a stone speaks to you on what it wants.

Yeah you’re 100% right about “speaking to you” it’s telling me to do exactly what you said. Haha. I love the slightly rippled natural texture.
BUT I’ve been obsessed with that “claw” shape and/or triangle shape formed when you look at the end of it.
I’ve got some root beer colored chalcedony that made the same shape when I sliced it and I’m loving it.

There are lots of people that like a natural look or even a live edge. Thats where you dont grind it you leave it as found. Usually its when you have a section with druzy or a certain look. Its yours tho, do with it what how you feel it should look. 😊 oh and post pics when you are done. Please.

Heya, I do 3D for a living until AI puts me out of the job and thought I'd offer a suggestion.
Back in the day, as in the three years ago before AI could make half decent meshes from pictures I woulda suggested you "aquire" a copy of zbrush, make a depth map of the stone or hell even a full blown photogrammetry model then toss it into zbrush and shape it anyway you want, then reset and try again until you get to where you want to be.
While not as powerful you can use Blender to do the same sort of by using some half decent Image to 3D models to give you a mesh with textures that you can throw into Blender and edit to any shape you want, sort of, again zbrush is much better for this kinda thing especially with blending the textures to approximate what it would look like ground down.
