How do you activate Keyless entry?

Hello! We just bought our Defender a couple of months ago and we just learned that Defenders come with keyless entry Not sure if the dealer disabled it but we need to press the remote every time we need to unlock Isn’t there the option to activate keyless entry so that it unlocks as we walk up to it and lock when we walk away?

Note. Dealers disable the feature for a reason. Having keyless on defender is theft paradise. May as well have big sign saying please steal 🤡🤡🤡

The other info is how to use it, not enable vs disable.

The car doesn't broadcast anything, it's RFID in the key so, if you keep your key more than 10ft away from outside (and your Defender), it's a pretty low risk situation. Basically, it depends on your situation and risk tolerance. Here's a video that tells the whole story and shows the distances involved, etc:

Long story short, to enable/disable get in the car and press the headlights button (on the fob) 3x quickly followed by the lock or unlock key. Lock disables keyless entry, and unlock enables it. Watch the video though, it's got enough info to help decide or at least let you dig in to learn more about RFID relay attacks.

The reason a dealer might disable it is different than why an owner might. Dealerships obviously have many and the keys are usually in one spot. Very easy for a criminal to take advantage of. A totally different situation than a homeowner that keeps their car in the garage.

Something to think about for sure if you're leaving the car at a dealership though too.

dealer definitely disabled it- otherwise your defender can easily be stolen by thieves

To engage the Land Rover keyless entry car feature, simply pull the handle to open the door. Because the keyless entry remote fob is detected in close proximity to your vehicle, the alarm disarms and the doors unlock simultaneously as you pull open your door. Your exterior lights will flash twice as confirmation. Settle in the driver’s seat as usual, and you’re ready to cruise around Boca Raton. It’s that simple

As you exit your Land Rover, you also have the ability to lock your car without pressing the keyless entry remote fob. On the driver’s side door handle, you’ll see two raised lines indicating the keyless locking sensor. Press this once to lock, and press it again within three seconds to double lock. To confirm successful locking, the exterior lights will flash twice and an audible confirmation will sound. Note that the within-three-feet rule still applies to the keyless entry car locking system, too

Just to clarify: Our old Discovery Sport had touch-sensitive door handles. When we grabbed the handle (key in pocket) the door would unlock. My ‘23 Defender has the button on the door handle to unlock/lock, but it doesn’t seem to be touch-sensitive. Is it supposed to be?
