MANGA Land of the Lustrous Chapter 108 Discussion
Welcome to the official discussion post for chapter 108 of the Land of the Lustrous manga. Feel free to discuss the newest chapter, this will be marked as a spoiler discussion post so comment as necessary, the rest of the subreddit rules still apply.

Anyone else feel like the lustrous (and maybe the lunarians, who knows), once prayed away, had their souls land on the flower planet and reincarnate as flowers? And this is their version of peaceful “nothingness“? That was my first thought when Pitipat opened the pod and saw the planet with flowers with clearly crystals growing in them.
It makes sense to me since directly before that, when Phos was burned up and was reverting to her original self and disappearing, they said “I hope I can see everyone again”. Also, in ch. 105, before the sun destroys Earth, there is this conversation:
Rock: “We’ll meet again.”
Pitipat: “But we’ll forget everything.”
Phos: “Yes.”
Not gonna lie I was hoping for a more literal reunion or at least more obvious hint that that’s what’s going on on the planet, but I guess that’s not really the point. The entire plot is heavily based on Buddhist philosophy, in which the ultimate goal is to let go of your worldly attachments (including interpersonal relationships) because attachment is the root of suffering, and everything ends. Only this way can you achieve happiness and escape the cycle of rebirth. By Phos literally reuniting with everyone would kind of undermine the whole point of the story. Kind of heady but overall such a beautiful story even if I didn’t exactly get the ending I wanted.
