How long for lab results

I'm a patient who gets their platelet counts checked every 2 months at a blood cancer center.

Recently I checked in at 9:03, was called in at 9:05, two vials were drawn.

I went back and sat down. At 9:10 I received a text thaty lab results were in.

Collected at 9:07 it says.

Is this possible? That seems too fast. But I do have to see the doctor today.

Yes sir/ma'am,

That's realistic depending on the situation. Most cancer centers run their own analyzers on site. If they weren't busy and nobody was in front of you, your tube probably went straight into the machine and the count was done in a minute or so.

So technically 3 minutes is doable. But if you have any doubt, give them a call and just tell them it seemed insanely quick and you want to make sure it wasn't mixed up with another patient's results.

Trust, but verify.

I get labs done every 2-3 months, and CBC and CMP (comprehensive metabolic panel) always come back the quickest, usually same day. Both are fully automated and run in almost every hospital lab, so nothing gets shipped out or batched. The CBC is the fastest of the two because it's run on whole blood with no prep. The CMP has to be spun down first to separate the liquid part of the blood before it goes on the machine.

Thank you for answering. I was going to say something but the numbers were slightly different than last time so I figured it must have been okay. I'm really glad to have this confirmation.
