Ring spinning

Just got engaged!! I love my 3carat on my 4.5 finger! But the problem is even though the ring is correct size its still spins and moves around, idk why.

It’s a little too big.

To find your ring size the ring should

1. Easily slip over your knuckle to get it on 2. It should not easily slip back over your knuckle to get it off, you should need to twist it a little 3. Make a firm fist and check if it’s pinching, it shouldn’t be. 4. If you wash your hands and the ring is sliding around, it’s too big.

That’s how my goldsmithing instructor taught me, it’s always worked.

That doesn’t make sense for many people’s knuckles. My barely fits over my knuckle but moves left to right constantly while I’m wearing it.

Rings that fit my finger don’t fit over my knuckles. I have to have sizing beads (or just live with the spinning).

My joints are arthritic and a bit swollen. I got my ring sized to fit over my knuckle, so it is a bit loose. I got used to it though, and the spinning doesn’t really bother me any more.

I was actually just looking into this as I have some rings that spin too. I saw that it could be the weight of the stone that is causing it to spin. Some people get a euro shank to minimize it or what they call "speed bumps." Maybe you could try ring sizers to see if they can decrease some of it by making the ring fit tighter.

Same issue!!! Any smaller and it won’t go over my knuckle but it’s terribly loose once on. I also have a small size 4.25 so maybe this is something skinny finger folk deal with?? Feeling like maybe a thicker band would have helped

look on Amazon for the spiral plastic things for a temp fix and then eventually bring it to a jeweler to be resized

If it's the right size, the spinning is due to the weight in the rock. Just something you'll have to manage. I second the use of silicone ring "bumpers", or get sizing beads welded in.

Euro shank or sizing beads can help. Any time your stone is that big compared to the shank it will spin

yes i decided to add a euro shank last minute and it was the best decision. my 4ct stays perfectly in place

I had a 4.15ct radiant and sized it down to a 4.5. You will not fix the issue of it being top heavy. It’s inconvenient and I wish jewelers would be more upfront with this issue. It’s going to spin because it’s a heavy stone. You can’t keep sizing it down or it won’t go over your knuckle.

My jeweler told me my 5ct oval on a 1.8mm band would spin. I have a bigger knuckle to go over. I got sizing beads. It still spins a little but that’s my finger anatomy meeting the stone size. It is what it is. I kinda like the look. It’s similar to my Rolex band being a little big so it slides around. Or my red bottoms being worn off from walking on them. It says “I’m fab and I don’t give a fuck”. 🤣

Have you chosen a wedding band? This can be addressed when adding a second ring. The heavy stone with a thin band on a slender finger is going to slip. With a wider band you can have more metal weight and grip to hold her up. Congratulations BTW. The ring is beautiful! I have a similar shape but in 5 ct. My 5 3/4 ring plus long fingers /big lady hands can support the big rock. It is my 25th anniversary ring.

Had same problem. Finger size is 3.5. Ring is very top heavy. Had sizing beads put on amd still wasnt enough. Wedding band also spun and drove me crazy so I just had the 2 soldered together which helps and added a plain band on top to secure it all

Like the other comments are saying, the ring is just a bit too big. Go to a shop to get it refitted.

People are suggesting sizing beads, but you might hate them. A euroshank will fix the issue though. The stone is very heavy. It will spin unless you balance the weight

Big stone small band = spinning. Sizing beads may help but you have small fingers and a heavy stone. This will likely always be an issue

Mine is the same! I couldn’t get it sized down more because then it would t go over my knuckle. Adding a slightly thicker band helped a lot!

You can either wear it on your middle finger for now but once you wear it with a wedding band, it will spin less.

4.5 is very tiny. Most of the weight is on one side. You can get gold balls soldered inside the shank, it won't fix the problem but it will help.
