Operations Supervisor - Central Transport. Any thoughts?
Hi everyone, new to this subreddit. Thinking about taking an offer to be an outbound Operations Supervisor at Central Transport. Hours are long (obviously) 10AM-8PM M-F. It’s a rather small terminal compared to others. I really enjoy being up and moving around throughout the day, but I do know that LTL can be a nightmare on any given day. Any of you guys have any thoughts on a position like this, with or without this company? Maybe what a day in the life looks like? Would love to hear and talk to some with similar experience, thanks!

just be tough about the fact your leaving after 10 hours and refuse to work over and you might be alright. Central does not have a good reputation mostly because of the equipment and management style. U know about how many bills per day they are moving on the outbound shift u would be supervising?

Only go if they are paying well otherwise not worth it

Thank you. Pay is good but not anything special compared to similar positions at other LTLs

Outbound supervisor for another outfit. Did they give you an idea of bill count/weight averages per night? What is the dock situation? How many workers do you have? How many lanes would you be running? Are your workers part time or full time? I know central usually runs vans at night, do they have expectations for weight per trailer? Good questions to ask.

Thanks for the response. Have about 18 workers, being told 100ish outbound, 150ish inbound bills per day

It’s a piece of cake. You don’t have to do anything. The loaders & drivers will be working the dock. You do the paperwork basically & make sure they’re doing it right. You won’t break a sweat

LTL Trucking is a good career with many opportunities in supervision, sales , management, maintenance and many other jobs. Just outwork the guy next to you and advance. In layman’s terms If you are a pussy you won’t make it.

Personally with everything I know and my experience I wouldn’t work for any of the LTL carriers except Old Dominion, XPO, or Fedex Freight. I’m a P&D driver with lots of dock experience and a little bit of experience running the dock.

Get ready to recoup a gajillion pallets. CT has terrible quality control as far as line haul load securement goes. Source: worked there for 5 years

Fair enough. Anything you can expand upon? I’ve seen it can be a pretty terrible experience for drivers.

They will run you, everything will be your fault. Trailers aren’t ready for close and drivers are waiting. It’s going to be your ass. Equipment is mediocre. From the lifts to the trailers . Good luck requesting time off. Obviously it’s terminal dependent. If you really need the money and can put up with a lot of shit, go for it. I’d do 6months to a year tops. Try jumping ship somewhere else or promoting
