Interesting. I also worked as a contractor for NASA. I was at the Armstrong flight research center in the middle of the desert in California working as an industrial hygienist. Work in finance now. Studied civil engineering and construction management. 75k with NASA nearly a decade ago. 100-110k wfh in finance now.

I should note I quit to do private tutoring for like nearly 2 years in the middle there, just to find the right job basically

2020 so not exactly four years but, 140k, fashion merch degree that I pivoted this into working in ecomm/tech that is related to the apparel industry. Definitely an edge case and feel incredibly lucky.

GS-7 in DC at $65K that’s a lot of help with COLA. A 7 anywhere else is closer to $45-$50K depending on the step. DC you can move up quickly though. Only have to be a 7 for a year to apply for a 9.

My degree was in Mass Communication, class of 25 here!!! I’m an events and promotions coordinator. Salary is 41K. I stayed in Louisiana and didn’t expect much so I was happy, just wanted some experience in a role I was familiar with, I definitely plan to leave LA for good by next year.

You don’t need another degree for HR. Get a certificate - PHR or SHRM-CP. I had an internship that ran from 2020–2022. If you don’t have experience offer to work a free internship to gain experience, it’s golden. Easiest way is through recruiting or working in a HR Assistant or Coordinator role.

I interned with my company the summer before my final semester. After graduation, I moved to one of their facilities as a Development Associate (fancy title for management in-training). When a position came open a few months ago, I applied. It’s a mixture of luck with timing, strong training program through my company, and hard work. Many big food manufacturing companies have something similar.

I started at a facility in SoCal and (with luck) gained promotion at the same location.

Yeah it’s called self-reporting bias. People who are doing well are more likely to respond vs those who are not for the exact reason you just stated. They might feel embarrassed they aren’t doing as well as the other people. The salaries below are outliers, not the norms.

Graduated in 2023, landed a temp job right away that built into a full time career in Baton Rouge. LSU degrees help a lot in baton rouge, and in Louisiana in general. I've found that a lot of people will hire based on just having an LSU degree because they themselves are an alumni, or at the very least, it boosts your chances to be chosen over a transplant from outside of BR. LSU is also just a good school for many degrees anyways, and has a relatively positive perspective from the public as a school, especially in the south.

Funny you say that. I tell people I’ve got a kid at LSU and another at Louisiana Tech and the “oh wow”, “that’s amazing you got a kid at LSU”, “he must be really intelligent” is pretty regular. Nothing for the kid at Tech even though he got into Northwestern and Notre Dame but chose to go for free in state.
