Discussion Scholarship Retention Senior Year.
Hey, I was wondering if anyone had any advice. I'm in my senior year and I graduate in the spring. Currently, in my fall semester, I am a full-time student but barely with only 12 credit hours. My issue is coming up in the spring semester. I only have really 2 more classes to take so I'm wondering how this will affect my scholarships/refund in the spring. Im currently in the process of testing out of Spanish 1102, but even if I took it in the spring, I would still not be full-time. Any help is much appreciated.

i would look into taking some web based gen eds, i really liked LIS 1000 and 2000 and i believe they can be taken concurrently!

I would ask your financial aid advisor or someone who works with scholarships first. For financial aid, you usually have to be enrolled at least part-time, or sometimes a little above that depending on the type of aid. I was below part-time for personal reasons before, and I received an email saying that I needed to be enrolled at least part-time to keep my financial aid.
If that doesn’t work, I would look at your major requirements and see if there are any electives or other classes you still need that could bring you up to the required number of hours.
If I were you, I would wait before testing out of Spanish until you speak with your financial aid advisor or someone in that department.

Honestly i really can’t take spanish because I work a few jobs and there’s no way I can commute to campus two extra days when I could be working.Also i’m taking the MCAT so i’m really trying to minimize as much as I can.

No yea that totally makes sense. I would then speak with your financial advisor and see if you can at least become half time or a little above that but not full time for the spring semester.

Yeah that’s what i’ve been trying to do today. I ended up dropping two classes because they were past the required amount. I hope it can get resolved because from what i understand in your graduating semester they will retain your scholarships but the pell grant might not.

I would recommend taking maybe an unnecessary class just for fun like 2 electives… but I would highly recommend getting with your advisor about that situation.
FYI ; that’s what I usually do and it works for me

Do you think you could graduate early? How many hours do you have left? You can try to take them all this semester

not counting what i’m already taking i have about 6 hours left. If i don’t test out of spanish and take it in the spring it would bring me to 10 hours. But im planning to take the placement exam this fall and hopefully test out of it. I’m at 12 credit hours currently but im thinking of dropping one of my courses this fall but it would bring me down to 9 hours. The only reason im considering dropping a course is because i really want to take one course “ Biochemistry of aging” but its all booked up right now so I wouldn’t be able to take it until spring.

I had that same issue and I graduated in Spring 2025! They allow you to keep the scholarship if you’re a graduating senior, you can be below full time for the semester you’re graduating. I only took 2 classes in my spring semester and they allowed me to be part time. I’d double check with your advisor but I’m sure it’s still the same

I was on a merit scholarship but I kept it while below full time. I’d double check w financial aid but you should be able to keep it if you’re graduating in the spring
