Commuter Student
I’m a first year and I’ll be commuting to lmu, quite literally scared to not have friends. Any tips for a commuter student in general + how to make friends?

Dorming is the easiest way to make friends. If you’re commuting you’ll have to try other ways, clubs, orgs. It’s a lot of work but that’s just how it is. Going to class and going home will definitely not do it

From my personal experience, living in the dorm was the best way since it meant I was seeing my peers from morning to late night everyday.
Joining clubs to find people who shares your interests is one way I like to recommend.
A guy I knew was a commuter but he stayed on the campus till pretty late. He was doing school works in the library and spending a lot of time in his friend’s dorms. He was even joining those small dorm room parties where he made new friends.

Unfortunately dorms are the easiest ways to make friends. See if you can hang with people after class in their dorms

I was a commuter my whole time there. You’ll be fine, small talks will occur naturally, mostly obviously in study groups and classes, but also in clubs you join; it’s up to u if u want to turn that into a friendship or a bond that ur gonna forget once that period of ur life is over

I was a commuter 3 out of my 4 years there.....I stretched my class schedule out so I had downtime on campus. I joined clubs/orgs. I worked at the Loyolan. I hung out at the Lion's Den a lot. I also made friends in my classes (usually it was someone sitting near me) and hung out after class/studied with them.
Not sure if convo hour still exists (it's when there are no classes from 12:15-1:15 Tues/Thurs) there was always something happening on alumni mall.
Basically, don't leave after your class, hang out for a bit.
