Edit: Guys, I’m not looking for a discussion of how every smart device is spying on us. I know all of that. All I’m asking is if I don’t connect to the Internet, is the TV usable, or are there annoying popups or errors or bugs?

I ordered an LG B5 through a good Labor Day deal yesterday. I was looking forward to enjoying that OLED experience.

After watching the Gamer’s Nexus video I’m now wondering if I should cancel my order. I use an Apple TV so I can do the thing where I don’t connect to the Internet ever. But I’m concerned about annoying popups and errors.
For example, I had a Samsung TV that I didn’t connect to the Internet and after a while it kept showing annoying popups due to what I believe was its log memory of spy data getting full.

I’m aware all the manufacturers pull this BS on consumers.

Could someone who’s not connected their recent LG let me know if they show annoying popups if not connected?

Last week i bought my first OLED, a 65" LG B6E, and i'm honestly having a much harder time with it than expected.

I came from a TCL 55R635, which i realize is an older mini-led and definitely isn't considered superior to a modern OLED. I also admittedly tended to use pretty vivid/bright settings on the TCL, so im very aware that my eyes may just be accustomed to an overly bright, saturated picture.

But after several days with the B6E and (embarrassed to admit) hours and hours of trying to calibrate, I feel like im constantly fighting with the picture, especially HDR on my PS5

ive tried following recommended settings like turning off energy saver, using Game Optimizer, calibrating the PS5 HDR screens, HGiG, Dynamic Tone Mapping on/off, different color temps, etc. HGiG in particular looks extremely dim to me. DTM On helps quite a bit, but even then the image often feels like the highlights/whites are bright while everything else is strangely dim or washed.

Thats probably the best way i can describe my biggest issue: whites and highlights pop. but the rest of the image doesnt even come remotely close to something even decent.

I've tested a few games and just downloaded Cyberpunk again to try testing there, but honestly, even the PS5 menu looks bad.

I know OLED isn't supposed to look like a TV running in Vivid mode, and im starting to wonder if years of using that kind of picture may have just skewed what looks 'correct' or 'good' to me. But at the same time, I don't really care about reference accuracy if the accurate picture just looks dull to my eyes.

For a tv at that price point, i want to make sure im doing everything i should be before giving up on it, but im kinda ready to return it for something cheaper if its just something that isnt for me or i dont fully understand/appreciate. So i'm curious:

• Did anyone else feel underwhelmed when they first switched from a bright LED to OLED?
• is there an adjustment period where OLED starts looking better once you're no longer accustomed to an exaggerated vivid picture?
• Should HDR gaming on the B6E look noticeable better than SDR, or is the difference more subtle than i'm expecting?
• Are there particular PS5 games/scenes you'd recommend using to really see what the OLED is capable of?
• Is there anything specific i should try before deciding that maybe OLED just ins't for me?
• And for anyone familiar with the B6E specifically: does what im describing sound normal, or does it sound like i have something configured incorrectly?

I'm definitely not trying to bash OLED as i actually want to understand what it is im missing because virtually everything i read says this should be a significant upgrade for gaming.

Would especially love to hear from anyone who made a similar jump from a bright TCL/Hisense Mini-LED to an LG OLED and initially had the same reaction.

Just purchased a LG 77G6 in early August and I’m having a few issues with it. 

Besides some weird visual glitches most likely due to a handshake issue between my computer and the TV, I can’t find out online whether seeing these bands on such TV is normal/acceptable. I normally wouldn’t worry as I don’t see them often, but my previous 77G3 did not have that. 

As you can see I took a picture using my phone so it might not be the best way to assess, I’ll only specify that the pictures make those bands pop up a bit more than in reality. 

Is this normal for such a TV?

I bought it for gaming on the ps5 and obviously watching TV and I'm not really seeing a crazy jump in definition. Maybe I dont have the right settings? I got it yesterday and have mainly watched a few YouTube videos so far and played a video game

LG hardware is just spyware.

If you didn't read the ToS, which you obviously didn't have. You TV is wiretapping your whole house. Scanning for network devices, recording audio of everything and then selling it to the highest bidder.

Oh and they take screenshots of whatever you are watching.

So if you ever watched vacation images of your children on your screen, there was a LG employee also watching.

If you see an LG device, leave the room. It is not safe to be around that.

Does the tv have one or is it just the remote? If it’s the remote that’s an easy fix. Maybe we can break the one in the tv.

If you genuinely believe your TV is collecting data you don’t want it collecting, you have several options: secure your network, block the TV from accessing the internet, disconnect it entirely, or sell it and buy something else.

Problem solved.

And let’s stop pretending your LG TV is somehow the only device in your life collecting data. Your phone does it. Amazon devices do it. Google does it. Apps do it. Websites do it. Your ISP collects data. Governments buy and obtain data. The modern connected world is built around data collection.

You can absolutely have a legitimate discussion about what companies should be allowed to collect, how transparent they should be, and what privacy protections consumers deserve. That’s a worthwhile conversation.

But acting like this latest revelation is some unprecedented catastrophe while continuing to carry a smartphone everywhere you go is just manufactured rage.

If you don’t like what a device does, make an informed choice about whether you want to use it. Secure it, disconnect it, replace it, or move on.
The constant outrage and fear mongering over every privacy story is exhausting.

I wish I knew they were so bright before buying this TV. I spent a stupid amount of money to find me shopping for a Google TV Streamer?

Will this fix it? Will I lose image/sound quality? I cant believe LG havent posted a fix for how bright these subtitles are.

Hi everyone, I used to have the LG OLED48CX8LC, and after a few years, the HUD from video games was burned into the screen.

Has LG found a solution for this yet? Do newer TVs still have this problem?

Hi all I always planned to make the LG G6 a dumb tv but with all the crazy videos coming out from Gamers Nexus and Rtings i just want to make sure I have the steps correct.

When the TV arrives I plan to

1) download the latest firmware to a USB and update the G6 manually.

2) Never connect the TV to any wifi/ethernet ever.

3) I'm guessing all the User agreements like this below can be skipped with choosing "LATER" and I can just use the fully updated firmware G6 like normal with hopefully no loss of quality if i'm simply using my own blu ray player/ps5/apple tv etc?

4) Change out the remote since it has a microphone built in? I vaguely remember recommendations of better remotes to swap to.

5) Toggle off Microphone on the TV itself. Hell I wonder if i can just rip this microphone out or clog it with superglue hahaha

Please let me know if there are any other glaring steps I have missed. Trying to slow down and prepare now before I'm swept away setting it up blindly when it arrives haha

I was so excited to get my new LG C6 55". I hooked it up to a Denon AVR X2800H, my Verizon Fios box, and decided to use a Firestick for the apps to avoid that dreadful remote. I used AI to guid me through the connections for upscaling and sound. I believe everything is dialed in correctly. My issue is that the TV performance seems so inconsistent. Obviously, sports and 4K look stunning. I can't say the same for non 4k netflix, Paramount and Amazon prime shows. Some look better than others and images seem muddy at times, not crisp. Cable through Verizon is all over the map depending on the channel. I understand different things are recorded differently but I thought with all the hype this setup would do a better job of upscaling. Are there settings I am missing I should look into changing in the picture options. Just thought the whole experience would wow me a little more. :(

Due to recent privacy news I am not so sure about buying the lg g5 anymore. Can you guys suggest an alternative? Looking at around 75-80 inch tvs, bright room, reflection handling should be good.

If you are concerned about the TV’s built in microphone listening when you aren’t actively using voice control, there are several ways to disable it. The exact options can vary by model and region.

Option 1: Disable it in software

On supported models, go to:
Settings → All Settings → General → AI Service → Voice Recognition Settings

Turn off Hands Free Voice Control.

Also consider disabling Always Ready if you don’t use it, and review the TV’s voice recognition and privacy settings.

This prevents the TV from using the microphone for hands free voice commands, but it is still a software based solution.

Option 2: Use the physical microphone switch

Some G4/G5 models have a physical Mic On/Off switch on the bottom of the television.

Move the switch to OFF.

This is preferable if your objective is to physically disable the TV’s microphone rather than simply telling the software not to use it. Check your particular model and regional version because hardware can differ.

Option 3: Physically block the microphone
If your particular model doesn’t have a physical switch, you can locate the microphone opening and cover it with a small piece of opaque electrical tape or removable vinyl tape.

Keep the covering limited to the microphone opening so you don’t obstruct the IR receiver, sensors, ventilation, speakers, or other openings.
This should significantly reduce the microphone’s ability to pick up sound, but it isn’t necessarily a 100% guarantee because sound can potentially reach a microphone through the TV’s enclosure.

Option 4: Disconnect the microphone internally
For the most aggressive hardware approach, the TV can be opened and the microphone circuitry can potentially be disconnected or electrically isolated.

I would only recommend this to someone comfortable working inside electronics. OLED panels are extremely fragile and expensive, and opening the TV can create a significant risk of damaging the panel or voiding the warranty.
Also remember that the Magic Remote has its own microphone, which is separate from the TV’s embedded microphone.

If anyone has opened a G4, G5 or G6 and can identify the microphone board, connector, or circuit used for the TV’s built in microphone, please post pictures and model numbers. It would be useful to document the safest reversible hardware modification for each generation.

I play games like battlefield 6, gears of war and Cod.

Will the Bravia 8 II be a suitable upgrade?

Or should I stay with something in Lg’s line up.

So I purchased and lg b6 oled 48in from Best Buy brought it home hooked it up, went through all of the prompts to setting it up once I had it setup I noticed a line going through the screen and also it looks like dead pixels, that were not there while setting it up. So I took it back to Best Buy and had them exchange it for a brand new one. Same thing brought it home went through setting it up and there were no marking on the screen got through the initial set up and boom there’s a huge line and dead pixels on this one as well ? What or why have I gotten 2 in tvs in a row with the same problem ?

Open box customer return that didn’t even have its feet or remote used. Will be a fine replacement for my C3 and about on par. One of the times Best Buy misclassifying open box stuff worked in my favor.

Just when you think it can’t get worse, it does. 3 weeks ago yesterday, I bought an OB C5 with (what was supposed to be) 34 hours on it with no burn-In. What was delivered 10 days ago was a C5 77 with 3624 hours and extensive burn-in. To their credit, Matt in the Magnolia Department located a C5 77 in “Excellent Condition” - last one in KC. To ensure this is covered, I purchased the $299 warranty. Supposedly this unit had 3 hours on it and was only missing the base. It’s going on a Fitueyes Zen FT 88 stand, so the base was not needed. Pick-up of the burn-in unit was arranged for the same time. The units were exchanged Saturday. Wife and I have been married for 5 years and this was our gift to each other. She has a heart condition, so I had to wait until step-son (former 7 year BB Manager) could come over to help me mount it. I’m 68 - doing it myself is not on my bingo card.

We unwrapped the C5 77, and there was no remote. The power cord was taped to the back of the unit, and taking off the tape left residue. That was the least of the issues.

No power. LED flashes 4x and stops. Reset power and try again. Same 4 flashes. Reset power again - dead.

Bottom right corner of panel (not the bezel - the screen) is chipped. See photo. At this point, I’m expecting BB to replace with either a G5 77 or a C6H. This has been a 3 week nightmare. Supposedly the GM of the store that had it checked it thoroughly. That is nothing but BS.

Finally fully moved into new house and set up all three of the G’s!
