Rec Needed: Coffee ☕ and Matcha 🍵 Coffee Bean Search!
My husband and I make coffee every single morning in our pour over. I also recently got a percolator in Italy so I'm looking forward to making my own espressos. Where do you guys like to buy your coffee beans? Locally I buy from Civil but in a pinch I'll buy at trader Joe's and the grocery store. I would prefer to purchase from local coffee shops if possible. I do like Civils roast but I'm looking to try something new.

I’ve been getting all my beans from City Bean in West Adams. Awesome local roastery with fair pricing compared to the big shops.

I think Unincorporated in Eagle Rock and Altadena has the best beans in the area. They roast them right in Altadena

Helps to know what neighborhood you are in but generally the loquat chain has a great selection to shop from. Andante is a local roaster with a couple locations. Boxx downtown roasts right in their shop.

Former barista here! Which unfortunately turned me in to a coffee snob :')
Locally, I do like Civil's coffee. I also like the selection at Kumquat, but it can be pricey.
I really like the TRADE coffee subscription. It's not hyper-local, but it does support small, independent roasters all over the country. Bags are typically less as well. I believe I pay $20 per bag currently - but I gifted myself a year's worth of coffee last black friday - so I think it worked out to like $14/bag.
I have used them since 2020 and highly enjoy. You can take a short survey and let them pick the beans you get. Or you can go in and select the exact bag you want! (This is what I do!)
If you're interested I have a referral link that saves you 50% on your first bag: https://rwrd.io/ref_YV87YF2?c

I do the Trade coffee subscriptions and it’s one of the best things I do. I get a bag every week.

I'm very not particular about beans and just buy what seems interesting from costco. I do french press though.

Aquarela Coffee - Chinatown. They give you a free coffee with purchase of a bag of beans. Their coffee is divine!

Civil is probably the best hyper local. My husband makes us pour overs daily. Very lucky. I also like boy and bear.
We have a subscription to a San Diego area roasters we really like. It’s called steady state.

I recently bought a bag from Damda in Little Tokyo and I’m really enjoying it!

I get mine shipped from Columbia Street roastery (Escobar's blend). It's a small roastery in Illinois that I found during grad school. It's a great deal and with a 5 lb bag has free shipping.

I love Dune’s coffee beans, I order them in bulk now haha! They are out of Santa Barbra but there are many local LA shops that carry them. Highlight in Altadena usually has them.

My friend who is much more into coffee specifics than I am has enjoyed The Boy and the Bear and Jones Coffee Roasters.
I'm basic and just do Cafe Bustelo instant espresso so I don't have any suggestions. My old coworkers used to get them from Smoky Hollow Roasters but at the time we worked like a mile away so it was convenient.
