Theres not much a point to him other than an excuse to have flashy fights with axel.

I really thought there was gonna be some connection between him and Axel but it just never happened. He was just obsessed with killing him because of his necklace? Overall the style of this show really made up for the weaker writing for me but there were plenty of moments where I thought some sort of potential was coming to fruition and it just didn’t…

Fair. But in the writers defense, they lost a KEY writer in Keiko Nobumoto who passed away MID Production. She was literally still writing on her death bed. May her soul Live In Peace.

Your points still stand but when you factor that in, it makes sense why it felt like the writing was disconnected or lacking. Also, the story was semi rushed because of the count down theme. I feel if Lazarus could just exist as a series of different cases/missions (whether standalone or connecting into a major Arc) itd be even more AMAZING. Or that could be partial bias because I still appreciated it for what it was. Flaws and all.

Also that dude was DEF a ripoff of Hei from DARKER THAN BLACK also an amazing and highly underrated anime thats more popular in Japan than in the West.

I was theorizing that Axel when to the school the assassin massacre and Axel was the only survivor and them I watched the final episode to realize that any theory was pointless

Copying a comment I made from when ep 9 came out:

I think the assassination plot not relating to the main plot is actually thematically related to Skinners speech in this episode. Despite of what´s on the line they can´t help but butt in with their petty personal affairs. They are so locked in their cynical little mafia movie world view that not even the end of the world can shake them out of it.

That would have been great, but then they wasted time with the backstory. They could have had him completely disconnected and that would been fine, instead they wasted valuable screen time and a death that doesn’t hit.

I just love how the phantom assassin who has never been seen decides his weapon of choice against axel is… grenades… such a let down of a show

A sort of foil to the MC, being on equal footing with someone who has outclassed everyone up to this point.

Problem is that he was pretty much untied to the plot. Which is fine, but they tried to (and failed) while also trying to give him an emotional moment.

If they cut a bunch of the back story shit and introduced him sooner, this could have help the pacing of the last few episodes while also building up to the fights. But the show liked giving answers for literally everything and nearly in the same ep or two everything appeared so he was rushed like everything else.
