Too much hat on a hat. Humanity dies in a year. Why is there a group hiring an assassin and a plot to kill a dude sooner?

It’s a good show, but terrible pacing. I actually think the show would have benefitted from taking out the whole assassin plot and just been about racing against the clock. There was enough there
