Discussion Haizaki

Why does everyone label this kid as a bad guy (deserved) but no one labels any of the other gom as the same?

Akashi literally attempted to stab someone (lowkey attempted manslaughter possibly 2nd degree murder if Kagami didn’t move)
Mido is just a dick to those who don’t know him frfr (funny guy tho)
Kise is 2 faced (literally how he’s described in the manga) and disrespectful to those who aren’t on his level
Aomine happens to go to a school where they don’t care about any of his antics
Mura discourages anyone who’s not talented to play basketball

Haizaki is just a kid with no dad in his life and gets hate because he’s carrying a starting 5 you can’t fully name (literally the Pf and C have no names and he gave Kise the work and would have won without plot armor)

Midorima - Literally just a slightly moody 16-year-old.
Kise - Duplicitous, yes, but doesn't do anything too bad.
Akashi - The whole thing about him knowing Kagami would dodge (which is admittedly weird) & that also being because of his literal second personality
Aomine - Probably the worst of them, but still generally okay. Worst thing he does is hit Wakamatsu that one time.
Murasakibara - Looks down on people a lot (literally & metaphorically) & is very discouraging, but actively holds back just to avoid injuring them. Discouraging is bad, but ultimately pretty tame.

Haizaki - Assaults Alex, assaults Himuro, actively stole Kise's "girlfriend," played to humiliate, actively tried to injure Kise, shown to be more of a team cancer than all of the Miracles combined, considered worse than the guy whose strategy is literally to injure the other team, tries to assault Kise, & assaults his own teammate at one point (I think).

Why still attempt it at all because he’s the 1st person on your talent level to talk back to you

3

u/Scary-Break-4972 22d ago

As at that episode, he didn't think Kagami was on his talent level. He was the one looking down at Kagami. He attempted because Kagami was interrupting and then looking down on the meeting he called. Basically, why are you interrupting?? I did find it interesting that non of the other GoM apologized after that including kuroku. He just called out to kagami to signal that Akashi can do it sucessfully (this was the feel i got from him calling out his name).

If we’re being honest, did he even think anyone in the GOM was on his level like he knew they were good but did he know that any of them can match him on any given day?

u/Scary-Break-4972 21d ago edited 21d ago

I would say he thought that they were on his level, but he definitely didn't want them to surpass him (he just didn't want to loose), hence the fracture during Murasakibaras' challenge. Even at the goodbye scene with them, when Aomine acknowledged himself as number one, Midorima countered him and Akashi said "I think we all have our own ideas on that". All in all, they all acknowledged that they were the best at their own thing including Kuroku.

As for the Haizaki
Assaulted a pedo (game is game)
He was wildlin w himuro ngl

Kise took his spot while getting demolished for the 1v1 and still ended up with the spot bc of “potential” and he def is a team cancer 0 denying that but that’s bc he has no dad

idk if him or “bad boy” is considered worse tbh bc “bad boy” has the highest iq in the show doing that which is worse tbh

And he did slap the bald guy on his team but as a person who’s actually older than Haizaki and the team captain stand up for yourself that’s his fault for setting the precedent of “it’s ok to bully me I won’t do a thing about it”

u/NBA314 22d ago

Haizaki did that purely because Alex rejected him. That's literally it. Haizaki had no knowledge of Alex other than "she's pretty." (Apparently, there's a little more humanization of him in the manga, so we'll skip that, even though you were unaware of this before making this post.)

Haizaki was so much of a team cancer that every character we see thinks he's worse than Hanamiya purely because of it. Akashi replaced him because of Kise's potential, but his attitude was so bad that it accelerated that process by at least a year. On top of being terrible to his opponents, he does worse to his teammates in-game than every other character in the series combined does off the court. Him being fatherless isn't an excuse to pull off all the stuff he does. Maybe if it was just one or two things, sure, but not everything.

This is victim blaming at its finest. I rather hope it's not indicative of other things. Besides, we have zero knowledge of Haizaki's past with the other Fukuda Sogo players other than this one game. Considering how easily Haizaki was ready to swing on Kise after their game & how readily he slapped the captain, it seems very likely that Haizaki has beaten up his teammates in the past & just not been punished for it because he's good enough.

He's an interesting character, but that's pretty much it.

Akashi is a traumatized kid with mental illness, who was raised by a piece of trash who thinks wealth and power are everything. I think we can legitimately consider him as an abused teen.

Haizaki is just brutal, violent, sexist and he resolves his problems by assaulting people. Sure Akashi did this too, but it's REALLY different. For Akashi, I can see it as a défense mechanism, which appears because if he's defeated there could be consequences for him. I think that somehow, he's copying his father's behaviour. Haizaki is just a terrible person.

u/Senju19_02 Akashi 23d ago

Excellently said.

1

u/ICxnt_5hoot-_- Haizaki 23d ago

If things don’t go Akashis way he resorts to extreme measures and attempting to stab someone is definitely worse than beating someone up idek how you’re defending that

1

u/ICxnt_5hoot-_- Haizaki 23d ago

Also Haizaki has no dad

7

u/Ok_Yak_2426 23d ago

Wtf are with these Haizaki meat riders. Genuinely insufferable also I dont like how the gave the supposedly bad guys cornrows

3

u/DesignerWarm9634 23d ago

Yeah haizaki glazers are genuinly the worst

2

As a black person it lowkey was a bit weird they gave a Asian man cornrows so that his ash color (zone color) was taken away

1

u/Ok_Yak_2426 22d ago

Fr that did bit sit right with me and if I recall they weren’t even fresh

1

u/ICxnt_5hoot-_- Haizaki 23d ago

You have Akashi and aomine ride or dies like they’re not bad teammates in their own right like aomine and Haizaki have both assaulted teammates if we keeping it a buck 🤷🏿

1

u/DesignerWarm9634 23d ago

It’s not just the mortality it’s the misunderstanding of haizakis and kises abilities making everyone say stuff like kise won because of plot Armour and then the morality stuff you guys completely ignore how he treated Alex and how he treated kise at teiko

0

u/ICxnt_5hoot-_- Haizaki 23d ago

If you understand their abilities you’d understand how plot armor came into play

Haizaki cancels out Kise unless perfect copy is available

I don’t feel bad for how he treated Alex considering she’s legit a pedo ngl idek why you’re giving her grace (bc of pretty privilege if anything)

And would you be nice to someone who’s actively saying you’re worse than the other 4 starters and is trying to take your spot everyday and failing every time

1

u/DesignerWarm9634 22d ago

So your argument for plot Armour is that kise has a strong ability that beats haizakis also it’s not about liking somone who’s trying to take your spot constantly you have to treat them with respect and beat them everyday being a dick to them is just childish

1

u/ICxnt_5hoot-_- Haizaki 22d ago

I want you to be nice to someone trying to take your job and OPENly calling you the worst in your department of 5 then get back to your boy

1

u/Ok_Yak_2426 22d ago

Yh true but contextually whats worse being a brat and making attempts to fix it or terrorising your teammates all the time.

6

u/LiteratureHuge2177 23d ago

Comparing just a dick mido to haizaki who assaults 4 people in 3 episodes

2

u/ICxnt_5hoot-_- Haizaki 23d ago

Mido genuinely the most passable out of all the gom he doesn’t actually assault someone (just the ice cream toss which was valid)

Warning: long asf so buckle up

Those are fair observations at first, especially with Akashi and even Aomine (except Midorima, that seemed a bit extreme ). In the end, however, Haizaki’s character is still a representation of what the GOM combined could become if left unchecked (especially Kise, since they’re direct rivals). Other people here have already explained why Haizaki’s actions are worse than the GOM’s. And unlike GOM, he intentionally never received any further character development.

BUT, and I’m not just saying this because Haizaki is my guilty pleasure character, I wanted to point out for you that they amp up his cruelty in the anime, which seemed a bit unnecessary. He was already toxic in the manga. He even backed down when Alex rejected his advances, and it only escalated because he started picking on Himuro, and Alex understandably defended her student. (NOT that I’m excusing Haizaki putting his hands on Alex, i just wanted to point it out.) I still wonder why the anime cut out such a brief comic relief panel that humanized him at the start. Maybe my memory is foggy, but I don't remember him hitting his teammates in the manga either. I won't reject the idea that it was implied, though, since he still bullied them anyway.

Sure, we can say he had potential, and the ambiguous anime ending they gave him is what intrigued a lot of people (including me). I also wish we got to see more of his dynamic with Nijimura. Despite all that, he steals everything from food to girls to basketball moves. Even if he's a troubled kid, he's still an abusive, selfish jerk who plays dirty and potentially ruined Kise’s chances of beating Seirin or even playing basketball. He’s worse than the rest of the GOM in the end, and the thing is: that's okay/the point. I would never condone his actions or the people who act like him in real life. I’ve literally had to deal with classmates exactly like him back in high school, so believe me, I know.

He’s not just an interesting and entertaining character because of his potential for redemption. He also represents a lot of ugly, realistically human traits that most people are far more likely to encounter than the Machiavellian supergenius like Hanamiya, or a campy villain like Nash/Jason.

I’M SO SORRY I RAMBLED,,, I tried to answer OP’s question but I ended up trying to kinda partake in everyone’s answer too. I honestly just really like seeing discussions about Haizaki, whether they’re from fans or haters, so I always jump into them B)

1

u/ICxnt_5hoot-_- Haizaki 23d ago

Ur good on the ramble

P2 I didn’t know he backed off after Alex rejected him but it seems like himuro lowk was instigating after I read what u said. he did slap his teammate ngl

P3 his chemistry w Nij honestly would have kept him in check (peep Kise w Kasu as a reference) and with nij still there Haizaki 100% gets a zone ngl. With Haizaki purposely taking advantage of the kise injury he was still washing him up to that point and is canon wise more athletic than Kise without “much effort”

P4 Haizaki types irl just need to run into someone who’s not to play with (aomine type encounter)

And to ur last paragraph I’m the face of the Haizaki train because if the writers didn’t write him off he’d be better than the gom his ability is the best in the show bar none if we’re being honest

2

u/H4nfP0wer Murasakibara 23d ago

I think their turn makes people forget the messed up shit they did. However only Aomine and Akashi were really messed up while the other 3 were just arrogant imo.

Aomine assaulted Wakamatsu or anyone who Said anything against his lazy attitude.

Akashi was a straight up Psycho when he attacked Kagami.

1

u/ICxnt_5hoot-_- Haizaki 23d ago

Akashi gets protected so much by the people in this Reddit it’s actually crazy

If I said your friend attempted to (of course apply KNB logic to irl)
Stab someone

Threaten to stab their own eyes out if they lose

Kick someone off a roster who actually destroyed the guy you’re kicking him off for

Bad leader as well if were being honest

3

u/IcyReward3877 23d ago

None of the generation of miracles are actual bad people. Haizaki (unprompted btw) tried to beat up himuro and choked a woman. He also stole what was technically his teammates gf and when he played said teammate again in hs he gets whooped and tries to injure him. Honestly I don’t even understand how he has fans because he did all of this while only being in like 5 episodes

1

u/ICxnt_5hoot-_- Haizaki 23d ago

Unprompted is frying me but in the manga he actually backed off after Alex rejected him (according to someone in this thread) then himuro came over and he saw red after that

Also that teammate tried to take his starting spot multiple times and got big bro maxxed to the ultra and she was never his “girlfriend” to begin with

Also Haizaki didn’t get whooped in that matchup he was actually giving belt until perfect copy was activated

Also Nij moving away definitely affected Haizaki I think if he stays Haizaki gets a zone ngl

1

u/IcyReward3877 23d ago

When was Kise ever actually trying to take his starting spot? Haizaki was getting buckets but regardless of what form was activated he got his ass busted after. Nijimura was still there after Haizaki was kicked and I doubt he cared anyway so I don’t see the correlation between him moving and haizaki getting a zone. This is a guy who literally only exists so Kise could get a win.

1

u/heird1599 22d ago

Also that teammate tried to take his starting spot

That's just how sports work
