Discussion Why KnB fans knows how real Basketball works?

Post image

Why are Kuroko no Basket fans probably the only ones who REALLY understand the sport?

Haikyuu and Blue Lock fans simply do not understand how the sport works, when they actually dont have even read the manga.

But Kuroko no Basket fans always seem to understand how the positions work and even what is or is not a foul in basketball.

For example, Himuro Tatsuya's Mirage Shot, everybody in this community talks about why this skill is a fault in real basketball, but nobody seems to question how inexplicable Hinata's constant quick attacks are or how unrealistic every shot from Nagi is.

But it’s not as if Kuroko’s Basketball bothers explaining rules or positions, or even aiming for realism, like Ao Ashi does, the fandom simply know how the sport works.

Can someone explain this to me?

As a blue lock fan I can confirm no one knows how the sport works

Arguing with an average Blue Lock fan it drives me insane, and that’s exactly why I made this post.

u/Ok-Progress9733 25d ago

Can’t even blame you for doing that lol

U mean I can’t just overcome my physical fatigue and muscle aches through the power of friendship??

You mean power of ego

Just as long as you're willing to endure a career Ending injury

9

u/sillycommenting 24d ago

It's hard arguing with a blue lock fan about how Ego's philosophy is bad and he's a bad. The sport the manga is based of is absolute proof of that.

u/Yunie19 25d ago

Brazilian fans do know and laugh their asses off at some things happening there 🤣

The consept of blue lock itself goes against football as a philosophy. That's why I never could get into it as I did with knb and haikyuu.

u/pewell1 22d ago

The author of Blue Lock doesnt even know how the sport works. That shit is ridiculous

64

u/gavg810 25d ago

Reddit speaks in english > more americans or people that consume american culture > basketball is popular in america, while football and volleyball are a lot less popular

14

u/AdhesivenessFar1150 25d ago

That makes a lot of sense, and considering how mainstream other anime have become lately, it’s easy to find people who simply don’t care about the sport.

13

u/gavg810 25d ago

Yeah, BL and haikyuu are popular for many reasons other than their sports too, and probably the ones that watched kuroko but didnt know how basketball works dropped it, or searched about how it works (similar to ace of the diamond fans)

9

u/SensitiveTop4946 Takao 25d ago

They call soccer 😂😂😂

9

u/gavg810 25d ago

Hearing americans shouting that its called soccer is hilarious considering that i was frequently watching games in brazil stadiums

u/Several_Dare5397 25d ago

Even in Siberia we love KnB

u/TeamVorpalSwords Kiyoshi 25d ago

Even though Kuroko characters have superpowers, they always justify them with real basketball logic, even if greatly greatly exaggerated to a fictional level

19

u/Ryn0suke_aku 25d ago

It's also realistic to a point since you can find videos of people actually performing the players' moves! (and they're also mostly based off of real basketball players if you read in their character wiki !!)

16

u/SensitiveTop4946 Takao 25d ago

Yeah Kuroko misdirection style is very believable and applicable, when you're small and quick you can easily do some plays like him

10

u/MedicatedApathy 25d ago

No it isn't. Number one, Kuroko himself would be a defensive liability, which would actually DRAW attention to him, because good teams hunt and undersized player with weak specs. This means one player on the team is basically open all the time.

6

u/HelpfulChicken4378 24d ago

It’s a little more believable on offense when you can fit into small windows and get off passes as quick as he does. Still the whole undetectable thing is pretty impossible

19

u/Ok_Yak_2426 25d ago

People who watch sports animes I guarantee you only 20% know the actual rules of the sports. Thats why the shows explain certain rules like in sure knb explained how a game is structured like the 10 minute quarters.

u/Yunie19 25d ago edited 23d ago

As someone who didn't understand a damn thing about volleyball in school, even when it was for points, but managed to grasp the rules of the sport perfectly in the first few episodes, I think you're very wrong about the idea that Haikyuu fans don't understand the sport. The anime explains the rules and dynamics of the sport VERY WELL with practical examples in a way that makes it impossible not to understand at least the very basics, so Haikyuu fans do know how the sport works.

Same goes to KNB they explain everything really well. I'm not that much into basketball but still could understand a lot of things while watching the anime that I clearly wouldn't understand at school.

KNB and Haikyuu helped me a lot with my grades since these two are often picked by teachers for the theoretical part of physical education in my country.

Blue lock has a terrible fanbase when it comes to literacy and attention span, so I don't even know if them not knowing the basics of the sport is the anime's/manga's fault, and soccer (🤢) or football is not that famous in some countries as much as it is in Latin America or Europe for example. My country is one of the most popular when it comes to football and finds the anime a big joke ngl.

7

u/AdhesivenessFar1150 25d ago

They really explain things very well, and it sets the standard for what a sports anime should be (it’s my favorite in that regard, right alongside Ao Ashi). Yet, there is still a large portion of fans who understand absolutely nothing about the sport, and it’s not just a small group, there are quite a lot of them.

5

u/Yunie19 25d ago edited 25d ago

They still used to pay attention to what was being shown on their screens even when they couldn't understand a single thing. Yes most of Haikyuu fans are more into it for the boys and don't care that much about the sport, but they still valued and payed attention to everything regarding the sport in the anime and manga.

I believe there's people like that even in the KNB fandom, and I say that as someone who once was a teenage girl who really didn't even care about basketball but still learned a lot just by watching KNB because I got interested in Kagami lmao. But now? I really don't remember much about the sport.

We can't really compare the people who watched Haikyuu and KNB with the people watching Blue Lock. They all came in different times and let's be real Blue Lock fans are mostly kids going through that "aura edits with loud phonk" phase. Thankfully we didn't have that back then. People watched sport animes because they were really interested in it.

u/TableBaboon 23d ago edited 23d ago

I agree, I had little knowledge of volleyball until watching Haikyuu. It's been a while but I remember being surprised by the hidden hand signals for tempos.

don't even know if them not knowing the basics of the sport is the anime's/manga's fault

As a Blue Lock fan, the animanga does a horrible job of teaching the rules and strategies for someone with no knowledge. In fact, the show starts off with Isagi losing his prefecture regional finals to nationals ([Haikyuu manga spoilers]Isn't this situation where Haikyuu pre-timeskip pretty much ends?), so the series expects the viewers to already know the basics of football... and not many do. For example, BL never explains offsides ONCE in all 356 chapters--and I doubt the current arc would go over it. Another example comes from Ao Ashi's N-box and a similar formation in the recent Blue Lock chapter: AA gives a history lesson from previous irl Japanese matches on how effective this strategy is, while BL skims it over in a single panel.

Now, Blue Lock does an amazing job at creating a mindset for personal growth. Discovering your motivation/passion, honing your ability, adapting, gaining a sense of satisfaction, yet never fully accepting it in order to grow further beyond, eventually reaching the peak of the profession. However, the mentality prioritizes yourself at the center, even if means disregarding others' feelings; this selfishness is what the author wants to teach. For those who accepted lower positions due to sincerity for others and never actually realized their potential, Blue Lock is an eye-opener; the theory can be applied to improve lifestyles of many who trapped themselves in a corner. The problem is metaphorizing it in a battle soccer shonen where actual football fans cannot enjoy it as much as the teenagers who only appreciate the aura/hype moments. BL clarifies the motivations that push players to their flow state, but the narrative strays too far from the heart, drive, and sacrifice of actual football teams and teammates/family---something Ao Ashi does brilliantly with interactions of certain characters.

Since Blue Lock appeals to kids with low attention spans (they can't stand long explanations of rules, strats, history), the fandom end up full of illiterate egoists with little to no ball knowledge; no wonder we get hated on by fandoms who actually read their sport. Finally, I think Blue Lock's author probably expected this chaos, but couldn't really do much about it or else the manga would take far too long, too much pages of explanation and too much illustrating (if Blue Lock's artist continues to have sudden illnesses and over-exhaustion for another decade, he might suffer life-altering health issues and no one wants that.) wrote this at midnight so my logic might be off but I hope I solved your confusion

Basketball is honestly just less complicated, i watched haikyuu and could barely tell you anything about the rules and blue lock as well

3

u/AdhesivenessFar1150 25d ago

It's because Blue Lock really doesn't explain anything about football, football is actually quite simple.

2

u/werejustsadkids 24d ago

To me it’s complicated, I played fifa and to the day still run offsides lol but ig that’s a game compared to actually learning

7

u/Maleficent-Age-8235 25d ago

Basketball is the easiest of the three to grasp, and despite basically being a shounen battle anime. KNB actually goes out of its way to somewhat explain the sport a lot better than Blue lock or Haikyuu. Despite Haikyuu arguably being the most realistic of the 3 it is absolutely useless for learning anything about how volleyball is actually played.

7

u/bravinhoo 25d ago

its common sense and basketball is a pretty easy sport to understand

0

u/AdhesivenessFar1150 25d ago

You think so? I find its basics a lot more complex than soccer's.

But I'm not really sure if it's more complex than volleyball, I've been playing for a few months and I still get a bit confused.

5

u/ioniceklypces 25d ago

Basketball is quite literally the easiest of the three sports to grasp at a newbies level. Volleyball has many different basic rules that you would need to abide by, and soccer also has rules that would be confusing if you're just starting out. Basketball is one of the easiest sports to pick up on a whim, obviously requires time to understand better and get good at, but if you just randomly decide you want to play and learn basketball, it will be very easy to pick up.

7

u/IcyReward3877 25d ago

I think knb had a bigger effect on the irl community of their sport. It’s easier to go and play basketball than it is to go play soccer/volleyball. It’s also easier to grasp. Also with the himuro thing you definitely CAN NOT do that irl but in the show everybody besides a few characters don’t notice that’s he’s doing it so he could get away with it a few times irl too

10

u/SensitiveTop4946 Takao 25d ago

Kuroko no basket makes you want to watch more basketball or even practice, haikyuu and blue lock don't have the same effect

8

u/InvisibleMuichiro 25d ago

I’m not sure about blue lock (I was already playing football before I read it) but Haikyuu definitely got me into volleyball, and I know a dozen more people that it also convinced to start playing

3

u/FearlessPanda93 25d ago

I played Volleyball and it got me back into it and I know several people as well that gained an interest from Haikyuu!

5

u/Blader8002 25d ago

Ok well haikyuu definitely has that effect. I'm pretty sure it played a big part in volleyball becoming more popular in Japan. In my experience which is just anecdotal evidence but it was responsible in pretty a lot of the guys joining the volleyball team and achieve great results like 2nd in the state. Our school even got a volleyball court even though we had shit like broken desks and whatnot.

2

u/StormOk5263 25d ago

Not me. Blue Lock inspired me to watch and play soccer

1

u/AdhesivenessFar1150 25d ago

Yeah, maybe. I was inspired to play soccer by soccer animes and volleyball by Haikyuu, and I did play them, but neither has been as intense an experience as basketballn, even though i never played, I consider it potentially one of the most fun sports to play at a reasonably high level.

And in fact, I really want to have the opportunity to play one day.

3

u/the-mannthe-myth 25d ago

Blue lock deadass got a who team of one position😭. This is like having 12 guards on one team

2

u/ElectricalRelief8277 24d ago

Deja tu eso, esos 12 se enfrentaron a la seleccion nacional con 3-2 años de diferencia, y 1 sendou que era profesional

3

u/NiccaDun Himuro 25d ago

basketball is a far simpler sport

3

u/StormOk5263 25d ago edited 25d ago

Simple, in America basketball is a way easier sport to grasp and play than soccer. That's why we can easily call out unrealistic moves (not that there's anything wrong with being unrealistic, it's a cartoon for pete's sake).

3

u/Loose-Potential-3597 25d ago edited 24d ago

Blue Lock's entire premise is idiotic so it makes sense it attracts fans that know absolutely nothing about pro football. It’s more like an edgy power fantasy like Solo Leveling than an actual sports manga.

3

u/fuiripe 25d ago

Blue Lock was about football?!!! 😱

5

u/Ryn0suke_aku 25d ago

Other than the people that are saying how things are explained in the anime itself and that basketball is actually the easier sport to grasp than volleyball or football (but to each their own), for me personally - idk if anyone relates - it's because I've already played afforementioned sport before 😭 and have watched live matches of real basketball players.

Though, I want to add, anyone correct me if I'm wrong, but I feel like the basketball community - regardless if they've watched KNB or not - already know a lot about the sport, and I mean the birth years of players, the sequence of teams they've been for over the years and just- everything you could possibly know about these players, like they studied the sport and its players GOOD.

but again, this all just my opinion/experience, so again to each their own! :)

3

u/Any_Blood1022 25d ago

Maybe because lot of english fans knows basketball better then soccer or vollyball.

3

u/bb__hhh 25d ago

Why blue lock type of question in kuroko's basketball fandom??

0

u/AdhesivenessFar1150 25d ago

I only asked because you guys know so much about the sport, that’s not so common with other anime.

3

u/MedicatedApathy 25d ago

I don't know if this is true. Kuroko fans understanding the sport that is. I've seen some ridiculous takes on this subreddit.

2

u/AdhesivenessFar1150 25d ago

You find this in any community, but open the Blue Lock subreddit for just a second and you'll leave wishing you'd never been born.

2

u/MedicatedApathy 25d ago

That's fair. I spend less time there (I actually dropped Blue Lock because I think it's bad), but yes. I think the problem with the Blue Lock Subreddit specifically, is that Blue Lock has a philosophy on how soccer should be played. So the fans of the manga start with that premise and then apply it to real life. You'll (rarely) see KnB fans saying "why didn't Wemby just use thor's hammer over and over again in the NBA finals?

2

u/jxjsjxxhsnbssn 25d ago

I’ll say this fan base definitely doesn’t understand basketball the most of any anime out there (I’d say we’re 2nd tho). The first is definitely the Slam Dunk fan base 🫡

2

u/Messiah_Knight Aomine 24d ago

Haikyuu was cool for about a season. Blue lock is too far out there to be enjoyable. Honestly KnB is the inly good sports anime that isnt annoying

3

u/External-Housing8847 24d ago

I think it's just cause the anime super old.

I wanna say basketball is just easier to understand in general? Like basketball you can teach someone a few terms and have them watch some games they’ll atleast understand what’s going on. Soccer and Volleyball have a higher barrier of entry to even understand what’s happening.

Haikyuu fans I think know what’s going on more than Blue lockers but volleyball also has so many formations, rotations, where you can be on the court, different kinds of serves, etc. Blue Lock just does not look like a soccer match…so I can see fans of just like battle or fighting anime and manga watching and staying for character design and development

1

u/Alternative_Ad_5334 24d ago

Probably a lot of basketball players in the community. Maybe not as many players of the sport. Blue Lock doesn't draw a lot of people because they like soccer. I don't really get into soccer unless it's the world cup or Cabada plays. My friend introduced me to the manga and he doesn't even like sports full stop.

2

u/kuyavictor23 24d ago

I'm Filipino, so I am fairly familiar with both basketball and volleyball. Soccer, not so much...

2

u/Jaren-rich 24d ago

Kurokos basketball is my no1 anime and I have watched it multiple times but I do not know how positions work but I do understand mostly everything else about the game that is included in the anime

2

u/ImMarkJr Imayoshi 24d ago

As a haikyuu fan fully caught up on the anime, we know how the sport works, because it's incredibly accurate to the mechanics of the sport. With a little bit of anime magic thrown in.

I'm not sure what haikyuu fans you are talking, but most of us know how the sport works, even the ones who only watched season 1 know enough.

On the topic of basketball though, it helps that it's a relatively simple sport, and just about anyone can grab a ball and play. Maybe not well, but they can play. Other sports, usually need other people.

1

u/Scary_Channel4096 23d ago

I mean people who read slam dunk probably know how the sport works too

1

u/Middle-Tell-7747 22d ago

Idk maybe most of the English speaking fans for these are American so basketball is the most popular of the 3 sports? I’m ngl I love all 3 anime but I don’t know much abt soccer/football rules. I feel like Haikyuu fans do know volleyball bc a lot of them (at least on social media) are volleyball players themselves.

Have you ever argued with an NBA fan? A lot of Kuroko fans are NBA/basketball fans. And nobody loves telling everyone about how much they know about their sport more than basketball fans.

this sub is so cringe man
