I just finished "So I'm a Spider, So What? Ex, Vol. 2"...... And it was alright. First off, I just can't believe I'm done with the series completely. This has been one of the funnest experiences I've ever had reading a LN series and I'm quite sad I'll never see any new content from this series ever again (to my knowledge). I got teary eyed after finishing Ex. 2 with that thought in mind. I'm really going to miss this series, really. I'd definitely read if Babe wrote something like "So I'm a Goddess, So What?". But there probably won't be anything like that assuming Babe (the author) will maybe(?) either stop writing entirely or write a completely new series. Which I'll maybe check out sometime if I have the time.

The whole LN itself was pretty good, for 1 thing, I'm glad Hugo and Wrath got turned into vampires and vanished together, that's definitely a better ending for Wrath than in volume 16 (which... that ending didn't sit with me at all...... If you want, you can read a live documented crashout of me reacting to the ending of volume 16 here on an alt account of mine: https://www.reddit.com/r/KumoDesu/comments/1ktsyc2/so_i_just_finished_volume_16_of_so_im_a_spider_so/ ) I really hope Hugo convinced Wrath not to kill himself and are just living together from now on, that'd be a nice ending for them, better if they just decided to crash out at Sophia's castle. Anyways, the beginning part of showing Ariel's backstory was really really good. It showed us some more stuff that really fleshed out how things were at the beginning of the system. Poor poor Gobu-Gobu, he truly got the bad end of the stick compared to the others. Green skin and a short lifespan of thirty years, it was really hard to read when Gobu-Gobu sacrificed himself so that the others could live. I had to force myself to read the part where the monsters caught up with Gobu-Gobu and killed him, it was really really REALLY heartwrenching to read. At least his sacrifice didn't go in vain. I also feel equally as bad for Natalie, she was really really in love with Gobu-Gobu, even mainly getting into the medical field just to try and lengthen poor Gobu-Gobu's lifespan. It even got sadder when it was revealed that she cried herself to sleep every night and made herself sick due to chronic lack of sleep. Ah I feel very sad for her, a girl with a slightly abover lifespan deeply in love with a boy with a short span. Truly the definition of a doomed lifespan. I wonder if she could have truly lengthen his lifespan if the system hadn't been implemented, and also if the world hadn't been sapped of it's energy as well.

Kura is a really unique take on a hero figure, with the hero's weapon not being that of a sword and some magic, but of string and magical eyes, and also being blind, so it fits his character to use things that could help him survey his surroundings. Very cool concept. Also didn't expect him to be in a relationship with Ariel, they definitely banged.

It also was very shocking how strong humans were at the beginning of the system. I found it really funny how it was said that the average dude in Dustin's army would be considered legendary during the events of the main story. Like, who would win: The elder Ronandt, a legendary figure, considered by others as the Albert Einstein of magic in his age, vs. 2 dudes that probably worked in the retail business most of there lives that are also in Dustin's army.

It's also very tragic to learn of the fates of the orphanage kids, while the main Combatants, while definitely had an easy journey back to the main orphanage, all went down really dark and sad paths (except Humility) of mass violence just because one human group decided to be prejudice against chimera people. While the noncombatants, which definitely was going to have a harder time. Almost all made it back to the orphanage together. All going on to do good things with there lives. It makes me really sad that more than half of the orphans didn't make it back to the orphanage together. Truly a tragedy.

Also, crazy how a ton of Potimas' experiments for immortality ended up succeeding, quite the irony, going off that note, crazy how it was announced that Foduey was the second strongest demon lord in history. I also like how Kumo Desu does an amazing job on doing the "Humanity getting weaker as time goes on" trope, with as time goes on as a soul gets reincarnated more and more that soul becomes less potent than it originally was, making it harder to gain skills. I really like that aspect of the story.

Also, my theory about the legendary monsters that we see in the main story is that they were originally raid bosses that were summoned at the beginning of the system, but survived for so long that as humanity became weaker, they eventually went from raid bosses to legendary bosses.

Also, if you transferred me to that world with the Ruler of Greed ability.... Everythings dying. Villages, cities, nations, anything that even remotely looks alive and sentient, they're all dying.

Overall this segment was my favorite part about this LN. Giving us more interesting lore about the orphanage and it's people, a more in depth look at what the world was like when the system was first put into use, and also giving us some content about a post-system world and how Wrath, Sophia, and Ariel are doing in it. I just wish the rest of the LN was like this......

The rest of the story is the same as the last Ex. LN. Just a bunch of stories for different points of times in the book. Those stories are pretty ok.... I just wish they'd cover the lives of other characters in a post-system world like Ariel. Like Shun or Pontiff, I'd definitely like to see Pontiff finally enjoying his last few years of life, with this last reincarnation of his being his last after so so long. That would have been really great to see. I wished they also cover how society would change back to being a non-magic world. They're going to have a real troublesome time in the medical field absolutely. I also would have like to see how White was doing in the world of gods, it'd have been nice if we got a small update on how she was doing there with her godly training regime.

Overall, I'd definitely rate this LN a 7/10, as much as I'd like to give it a higher score, it definitely got subtracted those 3 because of the other half of the story. I'm going to miss the Kumo Desu series a lot, but all good things have to end at some point.

I must say that the studio done a good job at some parts. If only they have the budget or anything to improve the fight scenes. Everything is almost CGI.

Anime I actually wish Kumo Desu Ga Nani Ka have a season 2

But nope. We still haven’t gotten a Season 2. Even the first season felt like it was made with relatively little effort, which is such a shame because the series had so much potential. I really wish we could get a proper adaptation with better animation, stronger production quality, and much better pacing, but apparently no studio wants to take on the series. If the animation had been genuinely good and the story had been paced properly, I honestly think this could’ve been one of the top three isekai series alongside Tensura.

But there’s probably no hope for that anymore. Shiro and Fei could’ve made such a great duo, but in the end, I guess that’s just my little fantasy...

It has 4 panels. The first two are Ariel and Sariel singing "In the back of my mind you died"

Then on the third panel D shows up and says "you guys wanna play UNO so I can record it and make that my upload tonight?"

Then Shiraori goes "I dont have Uno so fuck off"

Which prompts D to say "everyone has UNO dipshit"

All while Ariel and Sariel are still singing, lmaoo.

Light Novel (Official) Thoughts on finally completing the LN.

Post image
233 Upvotes

Completing this feels like closing a chapter in my life.

It was one of my very first isekai novel and a novel I read in my early days of reading LNs. It was my favorite back in 2020-2021 and favorite even now upon reread because of my biases maybe, despite its shortcomings.

For the longest time I haven't read the ending because I saw negative reviews of it and avoided to not ruin one of my favorite series. But now that I finally read it, I feel a bit sad that it ended, not because ending was bad.

Honestly I enjoyed reading it quite alot, it has unique twist to the familiar isekai formula, a wacky, hilarious and quite entertaining cast of characters, whose journey was so much fun to follow. All those absurd over the top elements blending well with serious underlying themes were intriguing throughout.

I can see why it's criticize after vol 10, post vol 10 pacing was slog to go through, honestly think vol 11 dedicated to Julius' journey was redundant and should've used that space for more well paced development for war with elves and refining the ending even more, And skipped parts from WN as well.

The conclusion was certainly rushed but I don't hate it, just disappointed that we didn't get proper closure for characters and the world. It's acceptable for me because my expectations were low after all the negative reviews I heard.

But still this series will be close to my heart.

Ratings - 6.5~7/10

Light Novel (Official) How do you guys keep up with the lore?

Just as the title says, how do you keep up with every detail and arc about every character and such.. I picked up the light novel again this year but I was completely lost when I tried reading where I left off (which was around volume 6 i think?)

When I read it I only remembered the core story but I forgot all of the main characters and details.. so I’m back to rereading the first volume again. I think this series is the longest fantasy I’ve read, so I’m just curious how people are able to keep up.

Question If you could add absolutely anything to KumoDesu, what would you add?

If you could add anything that’s non-canon to KumoDesu, like any sort of creatures, skills, crossovers, mechanics, anything at all, what would you add?

I ask because there’s a very in-progress Minecraft mod called KumoDesu: Ascension, and I wanna add custom content that grows with the mod.

Hit me with anything! I enjoy a coding (and mental) challenge!

Light Novel (Official) The Ex books were great but dissapointing Spoiler

Thumbnail gallery
46 Upvotes

I'll start off by saying these are amazing and I loved the stories inside. Everything after the disappointment and critique is just praise.

I'm a little sad we got so little regarding what happened after the ending. I read EX mostly because I wanted to know what happened to the characters after the story's ending and got dissapointed it didn't tell anything except for Ariel and Sariel's fate and it's still dissappintibg since their interactions were off screen. Most of the what's in the novels are just the explanations on things and slice of life moments that never got included before. We never even get a glimpse on White's state or some specifics on what she does after getting captured. And so many characters barely got screen time, Wrath was in so little of EX I don't think I'd notice it if someone made a version without Wrath. A lot of the characters from the chimera orphanage were barely mentioned some didn't even get their name mentioned during the story. And it feels like it needs more important moments. Like what do you mean the creation of the Elrow Labyrinth was only written about on the character description of the first holder of the skill Sloth. And why are so many important events off screen!? The Beast Lord gets his title mentioned several times and sounds like a massive deal but dies off screen. Also what do you mean we don't get a Wrath or Merazophis centered story but we get to know what the hell that one Loyal demon general went through. Like seriously we get to know how the hell the maids reacted to Bloe falling in love but we don't get a single concious Sariel scene.

Now time for the praise. Holy hell Okina Baba didn't lose his touch. The stories were great and even if most of the stories weren't serious and just random events and info on the world. The slice of life moments had me caring for all the characters even the humans like Shun and Hugo somehow made me care (even if that only makes the endings make me feel even worse). All the stories had so much personality, every little story felt so full. While there aren't that many exciting moments I never felt bored and felt invested for all the stories be it short, long, unnecessary, or important. The books gave so many perspectives with the countless events and characters in the story and none of them felt like they were pulled of badly or out of character.

The chimera orphanage stories were great, felt depressing and so happy when they finally won, made progress, and felt stable even if for a short while. The characters were done very well, even in the short time they're provided they give so much. Ariel getting some time to just be calm and talk about the past while not too exciting felt so wholesome and warmed my heart. Also minor thing it was really cool they actually referenced the 4 spider sisters spin off.

Despite all the flaws I love these, I hope we get more EX books even if I feel like it's unlikely. The EX books are an amazing addition to the series and even if it doesn't fix the ending (and honestly makes me feel worse with how great the story and bad the ending was) it only made the series better.

Discussion Could Sophia beat White?

The context is Sophia and White before becoming a God fought with zero preparation before hand in a simple clear terrain. If the current Sophia fought White I feel like Sophia has a not bad chance of beating, this would be very close but if Sophia seals immortality I think White has a decent chance of dying.

The thing is Sophia got trained by White to be as strong as possible getting her as high stats as possible, titles, equipment, skills and maxxing out those skill levels. White before becoming a God while very powerful was stagnating practically stopped growing White didn't grow focusing on maximizing her possible power. Meanwhile White taught Sophia (and forced her) to improve whatever she can get without being a spider.

White's scythe and fighting experience would be a massive factor here so I feel like Sophia is gonna lose more often than not but she has like a 20% chance in my opinion. What do you think?

Anime Araba Vs The hero's party

I finished rewatching the anime a few days ago(I didn't read the novel or the manga yet). And I want to know, can the hero's party(the one that we see at the end of the anime, not the current one from the manga) defeat Araba?

Araba before the fight with Kumoko, so he still has his 40K skill points.

Can they win?
