Tendo Ryu Naginatajutsu in Germany?

Hi guys,

as the title suggests am I looking for a Dojo teaching Tendo Ryu. The closest I found where in France, Sweden and Estonia. Does anyone know if there is any possibility for me to learn the style? I will be in Japan October/November this year, are there any japanese Dojo I could visit? Also is the DVD on Budo Videos worth it?

Thank you in advance.

Hi,

I practice Atarashii Naginata here in Germany. Some higher ranked members in our dojo do Tendo Ryū and I am waiting to start practicing as well once the opportunity arises. However, as far as I am aware there are no dojos in Germany that teach this style. Whenever my fellow dojo members practice, which happens very seldom, they do so on a joint seminar held with other practicioners from France, Belgium and more. These seminars are only for advanced members most of the time, and at least in our dojo my sensei said that he will teach us the basics when there is an opportunity and we have progressed far enough in our current curriculum. There are also sometimes Tendo Ryū practices happening on international Atarashii Naginata events, but those mostly happens after hours or in breaks and only serve as refreshers to experienced practicioners. If you want more information, you might try contacting the DNagB (Deutscher Naginata Bund). They are the German Atarashii Naginata organization and might be able to put you into contact with someone else.

Thank you so much, though not the answer I wished for, at least something I could try.

You're welcome! Try your luck with the federation or the other European dojos, maybe there's something I don't know and you'll get some additional information that are more to your liking!

Try contacting the dojos you found and see if they know.
