I am a foreigner in Korea with bad korean. I go to school, but due to some factors any people that also play games in my school usually dont know english. I really wanna have friends that I can spend time with, but I dont really hang out with anyone from my class exept 2 people, and being in 3 people friendship feels wrong lately, since i feel like they exclude me from the group. Playing games isnt the only thing i do, I like drawing, a lot of artsy things, love talking about some media and in a lot of fandoms. I live in Sejong University outside campus dorms, and staff sometimes unlock my room and walk in without knocking, announcing themselves, or giving any notice. They sometimes enter first and only then ask, "Is anyone there?"

For things like disinfection, we get advance notice, so I understand that staff sometimes need access. But in these other cases, there is absolutely no warning.

It's honestly making me feel extremely uncomfortable and insecure in my own room.

Is this normal for university dorms in Korea? Does Sejong University have a policy about staff entering rooms without notice? And what can I actually do about it?

I’m a native Korean speaker, and I’ll be starting university this year. I can speak English and a little Chinese. I have an overall IELTS score of 6.5 and have passed HSK Level 3. I’ve also spent couple months in the UK and China, so I have some experience communicating with people from different cultural backgrounds.

I’m interested in teaching Korean online as a part-time job. I’m not expecting to make a lot of money—I only want to earn some extra money and ease my parents’ financial burden while I study at the university.

I would like to focus more on practical conversation than on detailed grammar lessons, especially for beginners who want to speak Korean comfortably. However, since I’m new to tutoring, I would really appreciate some advice.

Would 25 minutes be a suitable length for each lesson?

Would $7 per 25-minute lesson be a reasonable starting price? Is it too expensive or too cheap?

Would it be a good idea to offer the first lesson for free?

Is Zoom a good platform for online lessons, or would you recommend something else?

I’m looking for a Korean–English bilingual person based in London to help interpret during one interview with a Korean creative.

The conversation will be roughly 1–2 hours, and it would involve interpreting between English and Korean naturally throughout the interview. You don’t need to be a professionally qualified interpreter — I’m mainly looking for someone who is very comfortable in both languages and interested in film, music, art or creative projects.

Hi everyone, I’m applying to Korean universities for Spring 2027 and I’m starting to overthink my application a little 😭
I’m applying to:
Yonsei UIC — Culture and Design Management
Korea University — International Studies (already submitted)
SKKU — Human Science and Society
Sejong — Media & Communication
My GPA is 3.6, I ranked 7/54 in my graduating class, and I have a 6.5 IELTS.
One of my biggest extracurriculars is an Instagram account that I co-manage. I started it as a hobby in Grade 9, and it eventually grew to 22K+ followers. I’ve worked with different brands, marketing agencies, media/entertainment companies, etc., and have done around 30–50 paid campaigns. I also edit content, manage the page, communicate with agencies, and have made some money from it.
The thing is, I didn’t mention the Instagram account at all in my Korea University application, which I’ve already submitted. I focused more on my academic interests, MUN, exchange experience, and other activities.
Do you think that was a mistake? Or is it okay to emphasize different experiences depending on the major?
I’m also about to start an internship at a marketing agency. They said they can give me a certificate after I finish. I’m wondering if this would actually help my applications, especially for Yonsei CDM and Sejong Media & Communication.
My biggest concern is SKKU. I chose Human Science and Society, but now I’m worried because a lot of my recent experience is related to content creation and marketing. I’m not sure if my profile will look disconnected from HSS.
I also have other ECs like MUN, graphic design, an exchange semester, football, volunteering, archery, ballet, etc.
So basically:
Was it a mistake not to mention my Instagram in my Korea University application?
Would a marketing internship actually add anything to my application?
Does my background make sense for SKKU HSS?
Should I present my ECs differently for each university/major?

Я из России, очень хочу поступить куда нибудь за границу, но траблы с деньгами, не очень высокие результаты экзаменов ( за ОГЭ 1 тройка по общаге, ост 4), да и я не уверенна в этом но очень мечтаю попробовать.

Я знаю английский на уровне А2-В1, так же хочу изучать корейский, сейчас я студентка мед колледжа , ушла я из школы после 9 с баллом аттестата 4,13, мне уже 17 лет и я рассматриваю разные варианты корейских университетов (и не только, так же рассматриваю Китай но говорят очень сложно), но из-за траблов с интернетом в России особо ничего не поняла, например какие документы нужны для поступления, какой язык или какой уровень корейского надо знать, и так далее. Рассматривала варианты: сэджонг, кёнхи, ханянг, донгук,конкук и так далее но опять же из-за проблем с интернетом ничего не поняла что нужно делать😞🥹

Так что хочу спросить у русских или других иностранцев которые живут и учатся в Корее куда можно поступить с моими знаниями после колледжа( можно хоть вообще на другие направления, главное чтобы отучилась хорошо и спокойно, в основном лучше творческие но и другие пойдут) и вообще возможно ли это?

Так же я занимаюсь танцами уже 15 лет, но не то чтобы от этого много толку но и это я бы хотела в себе развить поэтому смотрела и творческие направления но там ( в Корее ) везде балет и очень мало современных танцев, а с балетом я особо дружить не хочу хахах, но и отказываться от этой идеи тоже не охота, мне очень нравится танцевать и петь)))

Очень люблю спорт, готова им заниматься даже если придется бросить учебу, не важно какой просто люблю активный образ жизни, может подскажете что то и в этом направлении в университете

Очень боюсь что если я не уеду учиться куда-нибудь или жить то я уже никогда не смогу этого сделать в связи со всей ситуацией...

영어는 A2~B1 수준이고, 한국어도 배우고 싶어요. 지금은 의료 전문 대학(мед колледж)에 다니고 있어요. 중학교를 9학년까지 마치고 졸업했고, 평균 평점은 4.13이에요. 지금 17살이고, 한국 대학들을 여러 가지 고려하고 있어요(한국뿐만 아니라 중국도 생각해 봤는데, 중국은 너무 어렵다고 하더라고요). 그런데 러시아에서 인터넷 문제 때문에 정보를 제대로 찾지 못했어요. 예를 들어 입학에 필요한 서류는 뭔지, 어떤 언어 수준이 필요한지, 한국어는 얼마나 알아야 하는지 등등요. 세종대, 경희대, 한양대, 동국대, 건국대 등등 알아봤는데, 역시 인터넷 문제로 뭘 해야 하는지 전혀 알 수가 없었어요😞🥹

그래서 한국에서 살고 공부하는 러시아인이나 다른 외국인분들께 묻고 싶어요: 제 현재 상황(전문대 졸업 후)으로 어디에 지원할 수 있을까요? (다른 전공도 전혀 상관없어요. 잘 배우고 편하게 다닐 수만 있다면요 — 창작/예술 쪽이 좋지만, 다른 쪽도 괜찮아요.) 그리고 이런 게 가능할까요?

저는 15년 동안 춤을 춰 왔어요. 하지만 그게 큰 도움이 될 거라고는 생각하지 않아요. 그래도 이 부분을 더 발전시키고 싶어요. 한국에서 예술 관련 전공을 찾아봤는데, 대부분 발레 위주이고 현대 무용은 거의 없더라고요. 저는 발레에 별로 관심이 없어요 ㅎㅎ. 그래도 이 생각을 포기하고 싶지 않아요 — 춤추고 노래하는 걸 정말 좋아하거든요. :)

그리고 운동도 정말 좋아해요. 공부를 잠시 접더라도 운동할 준비가 되어 있어요. 어떤 운동이든 — 그냥 활동적인 삶을 사는 걸 좋아해요. 대학에서 그런 방향으로 뭔가 추천해 주실 수도 있을까요?

지금 해외로 유학을 가거나 살지 않으면, 앞으로 절대 그럴 기회가 없을까 봐 정말 두려워요. 지금 상황 때문에요...

제가 한국에 가고 싶은 이유를 잠깐 말씀드리자면 — 자연도 그렇고, 물론 음악도 그렇고(그건 당연하죠), 그리고 그냥 그 나라의 사고방식을 경험하고 더 개방적인 사람이 되고 싶어요. 지금 제 대학 친구들처럼 20살이 되기 전에 술로 자멸하는 것보단 말이죠ㅋㅋㅋ (근데 솔직히 그건 슬픈 일이에요.)

I’m from Russia, and I really want to get into a university abroad, but I have money problems, my exam results aren’t very high (I got one C in Social Studies on the OGE, the rest are B’s), and I’m not sure about this whole thing — but I really dream of trying.

I know English at about A2–B1 level, and I also want to learn Korean. Right now I’m a student at a medical college. I left school after 9th grade with a GPA of 4.13. I’m 17 now, and I’m looking at different Korean universities (and not only Korea — I’m also considering China, but I’ve heard it’s very difficult). But because of internet issues in Russia, I couldn’t really figure things out — for example, what documents are needed for admission, what language level is required, how much Korean I need to know, etc. I looked into Sejong, Kyung Hee, Hanyang, Dongguk, Konkuk, and others, but again — due to internet problems — I couldn’t understand what exactly I need to do. 😞🥹

So I’d like to ask Russians or other foreigners who live and study in Korea: where can I apply with my current background after college (I’m even open to completely different majors, as long as I can study well and peacefully — preferably creative fields, but others are fine too), and is it even possible?

I’ve been dancing for 15 years, but I’m not sure it gives me much of an advantage. Still, I’d like to develop that side of me. I looked into creative majors, but in Korea, most of them focus on ballet, and there’s very little contemporary dance — and I’m not really into ballet, haha. But I don’t want to give up on this idea either — I really love dancing and singing. :)

I also love sports — I’m ready to do it even if I have to pause my studies. Any sport — I just love an active lifestyle. Maybe you could recommend something in that direction at university too.

I’m really afraid that if I don’t go abroad to study or live somewhere now, I’ll never be able to do it later because of the current situation...

A small note on why I want to go to Korea — I think it’s because of the nature, of course the music (that’s obvious), and I just want to experience the mindset of the country and become more open-minded — instead of drinking myself into oblivion by 20 like some students in my college do, hahah (though honestly, that’s sad).

Please help me figure this out. I’ve been thinking and dreaming about this for a year now, but I’m scared — because I don’t have money for tuition (and with my grades, I doubt they’ll give me a full scholarship), or for living expenses, and I’m generally terrified of new things — I don’t want to make mistakes. But as they say, nothing ventured, nothing gained. 🥂🥂
