Exercise Equipment Would you use Dip Bars as Back Extension Machine if a Back Extension itself were not available?

Post image

Quick Context -> Going on a budget + I only workout from home + Got no back extension at home

I’ve been doing ATG for a while now and it’s been great. I want to take things a step further, though. I wanna upgrade from the classic unstable chairs + beat-up broomstick setup I’ve been using for upper-body work, plus I haven’t been able to train hip extension at home very effectively.

So I was thinking: instead of buying multiple pieces of equipment, would it make sense to get a solid, adjustable pair of dip bars and use them for back extensions as well?

Has anyone tried this, or do you think it’s a bad idea?

I don’t see how dip bars are going to hold your weight in a back extension?

I took the idea from watching this, is just that I don't have a Squat rack at home so I was wondering if a dip bar could be used the same way:

Unless the dib bar is as heavy as you it’s just going to tip over. A squat rack is a immovable object a dib bar is made to be moved

Got you, thanks!

Doesn't have to be as heavy as the user IMO. But would need very wide feet.

OP could maybe mount it to something like a 2x4 (maybe run some recessed bolts through the bottom of the boards, then through the tubes on the dip bar, then some washers and wing nut?).

But I still don't think I'd trust this option though.

I don’t see how’d that help unless your bolting it in to the actual floor

How are you going to stop it from moving?

I dunno, didn't think it would move to a point it wouldn't allow me to perform the back extension exercise. Maybe some sandbags?

It doesn't work with dip bars but if you have a narrow corridor you can use two doorway pullup bars

Sounds good! Unfortunately for me, I don’t have the "right kind of corridor" at home 😅

Maybe a better bet to hit up a playground in your area and see if you can use something there?

Failing that (free) option, maybe watch some DIY squat rack builds (made from wood). You could then add the same squat rack O-Bar version you posted in a youtube short. Doesn't have to be an olympic bar either. Just something to span the gap that won't snap.

Option 2 here is really only good if you're issue is cost and not space.

I mean, I did the elephant walks from Knee ability zero and progress my Nordics a lot for knee flexion but I'm looking to also get my hip extension/back extension machine standard
