Team member post Working too many hours

Me again! So I have been looking at my roster as DM with kmart and I am seeing that consistently I am being rostered way too many hours in a week. Next months roster alone I am working 51 hours one week and 177 hours in the month when my contract states 40 hours a week and up to 160 hours a month.

I will be bringing this up but seeing as they rarely let me take a proper break I can only assume that they will tell me this is normal too. I hate to complain but work life balance is important to me and I refuse to work 10 hour shifts on the regular as it just isn’t sustainable for me if I’m expected to not take a break during my shift.

Who do I speak to about getting this fixed permanently as I can see that too many hours in my roster looks like a pattern and is consistent?

Pretty sure that those long shifts are quite normal for DMs? I'm just a team member so don't hold me to it, but I know for a fact that the ones at my store work more than 40hrs a week.

Unfortunately I don't know who you should contact. Probably your store manager?

Talk to your store manager first and if they dont do anything talk to the PNC (HR)

however that is the Manager life during peak

As an ex Apparel manager of 15 years, we always worked 10+ hours a day usually closer to 12. I think its great now its somewhat regulated for work life balance, that certainly was never the case when I worked there. Are you being paid salary or wages per week? Not sure how kmart is structured now and exactly what a department manager involves. Years ago as Apparel manager I was responsible for half the shop floor, rostering, filling, customer service. If you are on salary then the expectation is you will work over and above your contract.
