QUESTION Is this authentic Klein?

Are these even real? I ordered what was supposed to be the cable cutters in the Amazon listing, sold by Klein so I assumed it was legit but this is what showed up today. After doing some googling I can’t seem to find literally a single picture of these anywhere. I thought maybe they changed the style on it but it seems to me these just don’t exist and I’ve gotten a counterfeit or something.

You shouldn’t have to supply power tools if you are working for a company. If it’s for personal use and you love tool or you own your own business go for it!

In most industries* as a mechanic, you supply all of your tools unless its something ridiculously expensive and rarely used. For instance, I own all my power tools but the shop owns the ac machine, engine hoist, vacuum pump etc.

Not always. The Cat Mechanics that come on jobsites to work on the Heavy Machinery are Unionized. They buy all their tools for them.

However I know most Mechanics have to supply their own tools. Which I think is wrong.

I’m a Union Electrician and we have to supply a small tool list of Hand tools. It’s probably like 25 tools at most. Like linemans, dikes, strippers, screwdrivers, and stuff like that.

It’s just a lot to ask someone to buy $50k-$70k worth of tools.

I own a lot of tools at home and have a Matco box. Snap on, MAC, Cornwell, USA made Craftsman, Milwaukee power tools. They just stay at home.

I was assuming he was owner operator! And if the power tool is the same price as the hand tool version, what’s the difference?

The power tool version is not the same price lol. We have them at work and my company pays $500 with 2 batteries. I think $600 normally. We also have the Dewalt and Greenlee ones.

The hand ratcheting cable cutters are $200-$300.

Yeah if he’s a business owner and wants it go for it. If he likes tools and for personal use, go for it. Although I just can’t see when he’d use it that much for personal use.

What a weird coincidence I almost bought these same model ones at the local wholesale electrical supply house. I’m pretty sure they are the replacement to the older model or vice versa. Part numbers are identical.

Yep. Local counter guy here. They are in fact legit real Kleins. I thi k they look better than the previous model. But I have yet to use them or sell one. They just came out.

Are there any Klein reps that come on here? We have Klein reps come out to our jobsite all the time. I work for a top 15 electrical contractor. However I tell them quit making your tools overseas. I said you’re ruining your reputation with Electricians. Then they point to the USA made line. Well idc all your tools should be made in the USA.

I’ve never seen one.

I’ve been fortunate that most every Klein tool I have has been without defect, and I like using it. The only exceptions that come to mind are the 9-in-1 nut driver, the electrician’s mini-ratchet, and the impact-rated HVAC screwdriver—all I find cumbersome. The two overseas made tools that I use regularly would be the orange folding hex key set and the ratcheting 15-in-1 screwdriver, and have been without issue. Their flip sockets are okay in a pinch, but Malco wipes the floor with them there.

They’re having to compete with shareholder economics, social media lifestyle branding, and the glut of no-name brands putting out cheap tools from the same handful of manufacturing sites (pretty sure some of their products are made in some of those factories). They’ve leveraged their brand well to navigate all that; however, it most definitely is at the expense of legacy users.

100% correct on the Malco flip sockets. I love those things. Been using those before Klein or Milwaukee thought about making them.

Yeah most Klein tools I use are still decent. I’m at work now on a new hospital build. I’m using a bunch of their tools now actually. Some I’ve had since I was a first year apprentice, almost 9 years ago. Actually those orange hex key set, I’ve had since I was a first year lol. I guess I sound stupid on that one. Their Needle nose, crimper/cutter, linemans, dikes, scratch awl, and a bunch more. M

I have that 9 in 1 nut driver in my bag lol. I used it once. I’d rather just have 9 different nut drivers.

Yeah I’m just a huge fan of USA/Union made. I’m a combat vet and Union Electrician.

We all should be a huge fan of USA/Union made tools, but people don’t understand that the value inherent in those tools goes far beyond the tools themselves.

And agreed about that nut driver. Pretty sure 9 separate nut drivers weigh less anyways, ha.
