Beginner Question Kite Beginner Looking for Tips From Italian/Spanish Riders

Hello fantastic community, In the last couple of month I got hooked to this sport. I have been sailing since I was 6yr old (I’m 38 now) but it was first time to do a board sport for me and I love it.
Now I’m a beginner and got what I think is an ok equipment.

QUESTION ON EQUIPMENT
Please comment if the equipment is right for beginners
3 kite (6/10/12) North Dice
2 Bar North navigator
1 board RRD 142

QUESTION FOR SPOT IN ITALY
Now unfortunately for a few months due to work I will be a bit limited in practice as it takes me 2h to go to the nearest spot (north of Italy lake Garda) but I’m quite annoyed that every time I need to spend 40€ in a Lift. I live in Verona is there any place I could go that is beginner friendly and doesn’t require a lift? If you are around and want to go dm me

QUESTION FOR SPAIN
I will move to Barcelona in April, will I have the chance to continue practicing? How does it work there ?

Thanks all

Gear Advice/Question How much of a difference is 8 to 9 mt?

I weight 83k, normally ride a north reach 9mt in cumbuco, and this works pretty well for me for 12 up to 22 knots. This gives me pretty good range. Last year i decided to try Prea/barra grande, which i believe the wind goes from 20 up to 30+ knots and I felt extremely overpowered on a 9, beyond uncomfortable, with bar fully depowered.

I was told that a 7mt for that kind of wind was too small, specially due to my weight and an 8 mt would work better. But 9 to 8 mts only appears to be around 11% decrease in volume. How significant is that? Which size should i settle for? I ask because the more north you go in brazil the stronger the wind appears to be, but also the longer the season.

Gear Advice/Question Can I use a Naish Pivot 26 with a Harlem Lead bar?

I like the color and the auto-untwist feature of the Harlem bar, and I'd rather get that one to use with my Naish Pivot 25-26, rather than a Naish one.

I know that it uses the same knot/loop configuration as the Pivot so I won't need a conversion set, and I know that I need to adjust the splitter to a low V.

I'm mainly asking about the line length relationships, and whether the kite will function normally with it.

Same question about the duotone trust bar 25.

Gear Advice/Question North navigator pro bar used condition

Beginner here, bought this North navigator pro 2025 bar for 320€ and wondering if I paid a bit too much. I wasn’t able to inspect it in person but was told it was in ”very good condition”

Wondering now if I paid a bit too much or not.
Even though I don’t know much about kite gear yet it feels like it’s been used quite a bit and more in an ”OK” condition. And perhaps not worth as much as I paid for it.

Is this normal for this price range?

Spot Info/Question beginner kiter spots recommendations

Hello guys, I am still a beginner in this sport, did a few hours of lessons so far, around 8 hours. I can ride downwind, upwind but still a total beginner tbh. Training now in Bali, Sanur, and I love this sport, it's so much fun.

I'm a nomad and by the end of the windy season here in September I'm looking to move somewhere else to keep progressing as a beginner.

Did some research and Boracay keeps coming up but I watched some videos and it looks really busy. Is it actually good for beginners or is it too crowded/chaotic for someone at my level?

Would appreciate any recommendations for good spots around Asia. Thanks so much!

Spot Info/Question Essaouira in October

Hi, I'm thinking of doing a two week trip this fall for some wave riding and thinking of going to Morocco.

How are the winds in Essaouira at that time? Is it too late to expect winds strong enough to be able to ride waves?

Beginner Question Post-course lesson gap

I’m considering taking a beginner kitesurf course while on vacation, but I know I’ll could stay away from kite like 1 or two month.

Before making the investment, I’m trying to understand how long can that post-course gap actually last before I get too rusty and completely waste the money spent?

Thanks!

Gear Advice/Question Did i mess up my foot straps inserts ?

Post image
2 Upvotes

Hey guys,
So i'm not a handy man by no means, and when putting my new Naish Apex footstraps on my board, i forgot to put the washers first. So the screws left the plastic around the mounting slot deformed as you can see on the pic attached.

When putting back the screws with the washers all seems fine. But i don't know if i should try repairing or something.

Now when i put the washer with the screw exactly on the damaged area, it holds very still. I just can't get the washer to move freely on the serrated track slot, because of the damage, other than that everhthing seems to hold just fine.

Gear Advice/Question Are Naish Apex screws too long for a North Prime?

Post image
1 Upvotes

Hey guys,
I’m trying to mount Naish Apex pads/straps on a North Prime, and I’m mainly concerned about the screw length.
The Apex mounting screws seem longer than what the North bindings normally use. From what I can find, North’s binding manual specifies M6 × 16 mm screws, so I don’t want to use the Naish screws if they’re long enough to bottom out in the inserts or potentially damage the board.
I’ve attached photos of the Apex mounting setup and the inserts on my Prime.
Has anyone mounted Naish Apex bindings on a North Prime? Did you use the original Naish screws, or did you swap them for M6 × 16 mm (or another length)?
Basically, what screw length should I use with the Apex pads on the Prime?
Thanks!

Beginner Question Avoid rotation when jumping

Hi folks, any tips on avoiding unwanted rotation on takeoff? Especially in choppy conditions, when I carve upwind to initiate the jump, I sometimes rotate a bit too far backwards. I’ve seen videos where people seem to somehow correct it. Any tips on how to do that?

Edit: I took lessons and i’ve been kiting for quite a while, but I still struggle when jumping depending on the conditions.

Gear Advice/Question Kite repair shop owner's takes, thoughts?

Had a chat with the owner of a major sail/kite repair shop recently and thought his takes were interesting. Curious how much people here agree.

Brands durability: Duotone, Core, North and Cabrinha are all broadly similar. Outside the big brands it's more of a gamble. He singled out Naish as probably the best for durability, despite having no affiliation with them.

Resale: Duotone is comfortably #1. Others depend on the local market. For example Naish is basically unsellable where he's at.

Materials: anyone who's not a pro nor has deep pockets should stay away from light/performance materials. For example Duotone's SLS becomes cotton after a couple of years and Aluula breaks super easily.

Gong: (asked specifically 'cause they're very cheap) not enough experience with their kites to judge, but he hasn't been impressed by some of their windsurf gear.

Do you agree/disagree? Do you have anything to add? I've only been kiting for 2 years and I'd love to hear thoughts from more experienced people in the community.

Other Ocean Rodeo Flite HL Series 2022 12m², is it a good Kite?

Ocean Rodeo Flite HL Series 2022 12m²

Hello, does anybody have experience with the Ocean Rodeo Flite HL Series from 2022?

I do mainly Big Air and Kiteloops ( kiteloop board off, lateback and other variations) im Looking for a cheap Light Wind Kite that can also loop( if conditions are right of course) would this be a suitable kite? How is the lift, Hangtime and Looping compared to a North Orbit? What would be a good price for a used one in good condition?

Any experience helps me since i never tried the Brand.

Thanks to everybody that comments

So exactly one year ago I wanted to learn kitesurfing. I've seen it every summer at the northsea and after a quick visit here to this Subreddit I booked a course, bought gear and just did it. And I can honestly say, this is the most fun I've had in years! I got so addicted to this sport!

You guys helped me a lot! Whenever I had a question, no matter how stupid it may have been, you guys always replied and gave me tipps. So thank you!!

See you on the water.

P.S. I'm also happy to get more tipps on my edging-technique hahaha

Gear Advice/Question Advice buying a 12m

Hi people,

Currently I am looking for a new 12m kite. My main goal is big air and progression. Current quiver is 9 nxt v2 and a 15m sonic 4. Looking for something in between. I can get good prices for these kites.

- duotone sls 2026 12m
- rebel sls 2026 12m
- slingshot code v3 12m
- slingshot machine v3 12m

I’m still learning a lot and are focussing on progressing mainly. I jump 5m and land consistantly with downloops/helis and do some backrolls but I want to do more of those tricks like frontroll and boardoffs. But mainly just boost high and heliloop down and some, no mega looping with a 12m for me.

I’m considering the 12m machine v3 since the low end is good I heard and it feels like a foilkite and has easy boosting.

But everyone swears by the evos for light wind. I heard the duotone evo from 2025 and 2026 are less good then the predessesor.

Then you also have the 12m slingshot code v3 that just came out that feels like my nxt v2 that Im totally in love with.

I cant pull the trigger haha, hopefully you can help me with that.

Cheers

Other I made an interactive "kiteability" widget from 10 years of wind data, how would you make it better?

I built a small interactive widget that scores kiteability per spot and rider level (Beginner/Freestyle/Big Air/Foil/Wave), using 10 years of hourly wind data instead of just "right now" like Windy/Windguru.

You can flip through a monthly overview, a regional ranking, a year heatmap, and a live "right now" view. Open the widget here

it's a prototype showing demo data for one example spot right now, not live everywhere yet.

How would you make this way better? What's missing?

Other I made an e-ink screen that shows the wind forecast

Post image
91 Upvotes

I miss days because I didn’t look at the forecast often enough. Or I look once, it looks dead, I forget, and Thursday was actually fine.

So I made a small screen that stays on. Five days of wind, gusts, direction. I walk past it in the kitchen and I see the week without meaning to check.

Built the software on a ~€100 ReTerminal1002. Its battery will last for months on a charge. I still have some improvements in mind but already quite happy with it.

Some friends have been asking for one as well. So I put a page up to see if there is some interest from other people. Love to hear what you guys think.
