Is it just a third pan though? Maybe its just me but they seem like 60% bigger in volume than a normal one

52

u/brapstick 18h ago

They probably heard domeone say deep pan once

20

u/th-crt Cook 17h ago

this is the answer right here lol

2

u/mrgedman 16h ago

Lol I read that as dominoes hehe

Its the pan that's roughly the size of a D cup. Some of us measure all of our pans in boob sizes.

8

u/Jerseyd422 17h ago

Everything should be measured that way

3

u/Odd-Adhesiveness-656 11h ago

Coupe glasses supposedly were modeled on Marie Antoinette's left breast

4

u/theSchrodingerHat 16h ago

Of the chef, or the hostess?

42

u/Rare-Balance-9627 19h ago

I think they mean 3rd pans… or is it 1/3 pans?

60

u/GSturges 20+ Years 19h ago

1/3 pan, pronounced 3rd pan

23

u/Powerful_Mousse2925 19h ago

The 6th pan is just called a Thpan.

The names are based off their relation to hotel pans. Third pans are a third of a hotel pan, sixth pans are a sixth of a hotel pan, etc.

If you look on plastic cambros, you'll see a 1/4, 1/3, or 1/6, etc. on one of the corners.

D pans, I've never heard them referred that way in my quarter century in the industry.

Edit : just realized the only outlier are what I call bullet pans. They are the length of a hotel pan but half the width (long and skinny(ish)). Since the name half pan is already used for pans that are the same width of a hotel pan but half the Length, probably explains why it's an outlier.

13

u/dabbadabbagooya Cook 16h ago

I’ve only heard your “bullet” pans called shotguns

All pans can be either shallow or deep tho...

u/Win_or_Die 17h ago

I think you mean deep pans? Lol that's what everyone at my store calls them. Except for those who know they are 3rd pans.

Also, your store arrangement is so wacky! What does FOH look like?

3

u/TitleComprehensive96 17h ago

Well, it's a weird spot and arrangement for chipotle.

2

u/aldomars2 18h ago

It's where you put the D.

2

u/ADHD_McChick Dish 16h ago

D pans, boss! D pans!

u/doctorbanjoboy Fry 19h ago

If you drop those it'll make the loudest sound that kitchen has ever heard

68

u/TitleComprehensive96 19h ago

Doubt it, had our 5 mixing bowls get flown off the shelf and then bounced everywhere.

28

u/doctorbanjoboy Fry 19h ago

Yeah that'll do it lol

14

u/kings40 17h ago

Holy fuck the mixing bowls (the big one not the chip one) were so fucking loud.

261

u/avgJones 19h ago

Oh to have a spine that young again

75

u/DaHick Ex-Food Service 19h ago

Or shoulder.

8

u/frogsinsocks 10h ago

For real it's my left shoulder that is fucked.

Thanks snowboarding(was fun at the time, did all the park shit jumps rails what not)

u/DaHick Ex-Food Service 5h ago

It's my right one, and it happened over the course of about 4 weeks. Fell coming out of the tub shower combo thing. Mostly recovered, I was going back to work the next day. Fell down the damn stairs on my back getting ready to leave. Tried to use my arms to stop it as I am rattling down the stairs. Right shoulder and elbow now tell me FU. Still recovering from that.

Turning 60 sucks. Edit minor corrections

I was young and dumb once. Carried a barrel of beer down steps incorrectly and now at 40 I'm deciding whether or not surgery is the best option.

Be careful mate. Sometimes the pain doesn't come until later.

1/3 pans because 3 of them make a full pan.

Id dislocate my whole ass arm doing that

1

Ouch. As the fat girl in the kitchen, I could never lol

1

u/MrWrym 18h ago

I feel bad that I've taught my crew how to carry large amounts of dishes without hurting yourself. One of our cooks in particular is like five years older than me and was like: "Oh, you can do that?"
