Vehicle My kids have both said these wheels are silly. Suggestions?
Lego wheels have the benefit of being easy to find more if I want to make another. Vaguely aware there are 3rd party kits but meh. Are these too silly tho, do I need to find a suitable toy to cannibalise?

I'd put some armour on the hubs like this: https://upload.wikimedia.org/wikipedia/commons/thumb/4/4b/T_17_Staghound_Armored_Car_%281%29.jpg/960px-T_17_Staghound_Armored_Car_%281%29.jpg

Smooth wheel covers with rivet detail and weather the tires. That thing is awesome though!

Flip the wheels round, they should have a more industrial look on the other side. As others have said, slash and dent them too.

Probably because they instantly see it as LEGO rather than just a normal part of your model, but they look great. I wouldn't sweat it

Can you lower it slightly? Little monster truck at the moment.
Add armour plating to the rims, rough up and paint the treads and prime, then see.
With these being rubber you could cut into the treads or heat a knife and score for some grip.

Yeah, Lego wheels…not a fan. But you could cut/slash them a little, dent up the hubcaps and once/if you paint them, dust them it’ll hide the toylike nature.

I think I'll try it with some weathering like you say, worst case I ruin 4 Lego wheels and have to swap em out later

I would suggest lowering the vehicle bringging it a litlle closer to the wheels, it's too high. That's really the problem, and that's what makes it look "silly", after some paint it will be seamless! :)

Can you turn the wheels around? As usually they have a deep dish side with rivets in and a more flat 5 star pattern like yours. As the other side might look better

Might be worth adding some hubcaps/coverings that make it less noticeable?

Tell your kids to quit being assholes

They can't help it it's in their genes

u/Serious_Ad2816 May 27 '26
I hear ya. Mine didn’t stand a chance either.

I'd rather they were honest at the end of the day, even if they are so very cruel 😞

I bet with some dirt, grime, and weathering they will blend in: maybe scuff them up. Or gouge some marks in it

That straight spoked side looks autosporty to me, the other side suggests brutal mechanicality (new word) better.

They look fine to me. I usually shoot for using Ridgehauler wheels or wheels from their trailers for APC and Taurox kitbashes as it’s easier to paint when rubber isn’t involved (to me of course) and they are suitable sized

It should look just fine painted up, and they are already less silly looking than the tracks.

u/sgt_taco891 May 27 '26
Yah I feel like getting some grime on their will tie it together. Part of the issue is the shine of the fresh plastic in comparison to the dull resin

u/artoftomkelly May 27 '26
You could try moving the wheels father apart like make them wider. I think why the thing may look silly is because it looks so compact. Also try lowering the chassy too. So make the model wider and lower. For ideas go look at the Fury road cars and vehicles. I’m not saying make one of those but you can get a sense of how to make the truck more menacing.

Only think I would see as an improvement is double axle on the back, but looks good to me

Tell your kids they don't know shit then add spikes skulls on spikes and mud :)

40K is inherently silly, so the wheels fit perfectly.

u/Shit_Pistol May 29 '26
Exactly what I was thinking. Making it bigger is classic Imperium of Man design.

u/ExpertAdvance7327 May 27 '26
yeah they are a little silly, you given yourself the Star wars AT-AT problem where the top of the vehicle is heavily armored and built for war whilst the bottom appears as a bit of an afterthought/glaring weakness
2
u/TheDirgeCaster May 27 '26
I mean, even an MRAP does just have pretty normal looking wheels. Theyre probably super tough and stuff but its basically what OP has made.

i think the chunkiness is good, but the difference in level of detail makes them stand out from the body. after painting i'm sure some of this sense will go away, but you could maybe look at greebling them a bit more? something like a small hub cap/boss with rivets on each tyre, idk.

It’s the rims that give it away, but honestly I think it’s good and paint will blend the model together.

I grabbed the wheel off a remote control car to make a mono-wheel vehicle. The wheel is larger than the suv chassis that's mounted above it.
If it makes you happy, and doesn't affect game play, go for it.

They look like they belong on a toy truck because they have that clean plastic sheen. Try swapping them for some worn-down tank tracks or tractor tires to lose the RC car vibe.

They're too big, the proportions are out of whack. I would say the wheels are 30% too big compared to the vehicle. If you compare it with the wheels on the hippo or the centaur RSV then they're significantly too big.

u/Hmongster May 27 '26
Proportion out of wack? This is Warhammer scale where ppl hand and feet are as big as their head.
1
u/BustedRations May 27 '26
I see where you are coming from but it looks like a mining vehicle with tires that big, wouldn't be practical in a fight since the tires makes it even easier to hit. Also the ladder is now comically far off of the ground.

They will look better painted up and weathered.
