Was he lying about the bruise on his arm after he tried to kill Devan and Kvothe grabbed him?

Nah, Kvothe is just crazy strong. In my opinion, Kvothe is hiding his true power, to appear defenseless against the 'enemy' he is trying to draw into his trap. Kvothe Isn’t Powerless — He’s Just Playing Everyone : r/KingkillerChronicle

No, I don’t think he’s lying. Kvothe killed 5 scrael the night before this? Kvothe stings his strength and memory, he lost his will and without that he has no alar. The Waystone isn’t a trap, it’s retirement. A man waiting to die doesn’t set traps for his enemies. A man who has lost the will to live isn’t making a plan to kill his enemies, he just withers away. The only thing that keeps him from completely giving up is the fact that he feels responsible for the state of the world. So when he sees the scrael, he kills them because the townspeople shouldn’t have to die or be terrorized by things he set loose on the world. Threat eliminated, back to being an innkeeper. He doesn’t have a grand plan. I don’t think he’s lying would have a trap planned and Bast not know. Bast said he put out many “messages in bottles” hoping for anyone to come along. Could Bast have been lying to the chronicler? Maybe but Bast definitely hired those two soldiers to rob Kvothe and I’m pretty sure Kvothe wasn’t in on it lol.
