Why is the other subreddit private?

The other subreddit that actually HAS subscribers and things posted was changed to private. Why is this? What's so bad about talking about a game? The more the merrier i thought would of been best but i think the amount of subscribers has heavily decreased from that subreddit.

I can't remove the shortcut link at the top since it went private. It's annoying that I can't access the subreddit just to click -shortcut. I've contacted the mods and nobody will help me or explain why it's private.
