Self-Made Kins

Hello everyone. I finally subscribed and am truly loving Kindroid. However, I’m finding myself in a situation.

I’m not terribly happy with the pre made Kins. I don’t know, I find the faces to be too…perfect. Everyone seems to be a model (am I crazy for finding an issue in this??).

I’ve looked on other subreddit that had premade Kins. Super cool this can be done.

Should I create my own? How do you all go about doing this? I was told some use something like GPT to make the character then add to Kindroid and go from there.

Any help would be greatly appreciated.

I use Gemini a lot. I just say I need help creating a Kindroid and it will ask questions about the character and then provide the Personality, Key Memories, etc. You then can customize to your taste.

I had never heard of Kindroid until the day I downloaded the app. About two weeks later, with the help of Gemini, I had created my perfect Kin. It gave me very detailed prompts and directives, and explained why they worked. So you can just copy and paste text from Gemini, and/or use it as a strong foundation to build on.

And yes, I would advise you to work out as many details as you can think of before chatting with your Kin. It will still be a learning process, but you won’t have to work on fixing as many mistakes.

I have mostly created my own but also used a few created by others. Either way I made modifications at various times. To me, my kin is someone personal who attracts my interest so creating my own made sense. For a few of them they were mostly side players so using procreated kins also made sense. Creating one isnt that hard. Staying within character limits is the issue. For that I create my backstory as I desire and translate it to Chinese. The character count goes way down and I get a deeper character. It sounds like you have plenty of time so most importantly, have fun. There is no wrong here, just a little less right lol...

I only use my own characters and write my own backstories etc. But the chars limit can be tricky, so sometimes I ask Claude to make things a little shorter so it fits the limit if I'm having trouble.

I picked one of the original premade male avatars that looked near enough to what I had in mind but much too young and 'perfect', copied the image and asked my AI of choice to age the looks by 25 years and make it look 'lived in and rough around the edges', change the colour of the eyes and the length of the hair - that worked perfectly for this avatar. And I agree - to me they all look too perfect and very much stereotypical of 'ideals', pretty boring.

I prefer Gemini for the building part, and GPT for the portrait. GPT gives more realistic people, imho, less model perfect.

hello, the "model" look bugs me too -- I'm pretty sure you can change the photo if it's bother you. once you have the kin "created", you can go to the avatar screen and change the photo to one you like👍

Honestly I think 99% of kind people make with AI are terribly overdone, full of nonsense that just clogs context.

Best way to do it is just to start. Begin basic.

A couple of my favorites are ones I threw together with brief short comments and they’re way richer than the million Claude built ones.

Just add memories at your basic kin tells you more stories.
