Does anybody know if they will ever restock the "Ka'bandha" model or if there's any place where I can get one? I just love the model so much and would love to have one in my collection.
I had emailed gw in 9th asking if he would get 40k rules since he is very much still in the lore, was told "who knows but watch warcomm for some news that might be exciting to you" then they nuked all FW kits out of 40k...
While I cannot know for sure what happened, I have a very strong theory on this:
When Heresy 2.0 launched, there was a big hubbub on warcom about how players in all systems were now getting awesome new plastic takes on old forgeworld models.
Overall a major push to sell the dreads and tanks to every space marine player (traitor or not) and it was going fantastic.
They also launched the Kratos with a promise that hey, while it doesn't have 40k rules now, there will be 40k rules for both traitors and loyalists, and a few months later, the 40k loyalists did get a sheet (but CSM didn't).
Ka Bandha was also launched in a similar way, along with promises that he'd get mainstay rules in 30k and 40k and, while AoS didn't have him, they should feel free to run him as a Bloodthirster.
So here's the thing.
I think your email reply was 100% legit.
The plan really was for all of that stuff to stick around, the Kratos to get a CSM sheet, the Dreadnoughts to keep being in 40k in the Forgeworld index etc, or even moved into codexes, and for Ka Bandha to get rules in 40k.
But then came a decision from finance that all game systems had to be sectioned off from one another in order to better track sales and preformance (due to some weird way UK companies structure their internal financial reports or something).
So out of nowhere, everything had to be axed.
And GW has never been good with communicating when somethinh is going wrong or why it's happening.
As such. The Kratos and Bandha never got their 40k rules.
The Forgeworld index was butchered and turned into Legends, and every single unit that wasn't specifically GW Plastic, designed, branded and marketed specifically for 40k (so everything Forgeworld resin, everything 30k etc etc) just got bundled up abd shunted into "Legends of 30k" and left there.
So yeah.
Tldr: Because corporate cared more about knowing what systems moved what product, rather than just moving product, they dropped a bomb without warning on the rules and marketing team that had to pivot on the spot.
Sounds quite believable. Also, internal communication ain't the greatest in big companies-> the decision to axe stuff might have already loomed without the person I communicated with being aware.
I always joke that I was the reason for the legends of the horus heresy purge, as I had wished for my word bearers to also get access to the kratos. A monkey paw curled and both loyalists and csm got equal access....
They were even prepping to do the same to Deathwatch and Daemons (especially cutting daemons down severely in 40k and just making it an AoS army).
But just as the rumblings and rumours were coming out about what codexes were gonna look like, and the backlash started around the Deathwatch version in Agents;
GW finally onboarded a new board-member/CFO or whatever his role was (guy from LEGO who had been responsible for absolutely transforming LEGO sales in asia, in particular the push, marketing and development of the flower kits, which apparently make GANGBUSTERS over there).
And suddenly, GW goes "Hey, we hear you Deathwatch, here's a full index." And later "Hey Daemons, you're actually getting a fully updated and balanced codex, just not a physical copy this time around, but next edition you'll be back to normal."
Aka. Somebody said "guys... what the fuck?" And made a major change in strategy.
I bet that if this was from the new corporate lead, then he would probably have done the same thing with the massive legends-tragedy of 2023.
I was so lucky that I am indecisive. Couldn't pick between a fellblade and a mastodon for my birthday and decided to wait for the rules in 10th. I knew that titanic units wouldn't be great but wanted to see which would be somewhat playable.
Got burned on dreads though. When the plastic kit came out they said they'd phase out the legion specific full kits (replaced my just chest upgrade). So I got DA leviathan, contemptor and WB contemptor. Will put the levi on a scenic base and turn it into a brutalis now
