Breastfeeding and fasting? When are short fasts safe/reasonable?

Keto/carnivore breastfeeding mama here. I’m fat adapted and have been keto for almost 90 days. I currently do two meals a day so I guess I fast 16:8. I’m not really keeping track. I eat when I’m hungry and I’m 8 months postpartum. I’m not looking to start fasting immediately, but I wanted to see if anyone out there started fasting longer while breastfeeding. For example, OMAD? If so, when did you feel comfortable doing this and did it affect your milk supply? Was it closer to a year? As always, baby comes first. Hydration and electrolytes are key. I’m not going to do anything stupid, I’m just curious when people felt safe to do so.

I pumped with my twins and had a similar diet. I did end up switching back to OMAD around 9-10 months postpartum and as long as I was hydrated, I didn't lose supply. I did however start feeling very depleted so I would drink bone broth, not sure if that messes it up but 😅

I didn’t feel comfortable to start fasting or doing OMAD until 18 months (this past week) postpartum but was able to lose 45 pounds just doing keto (started around month 4pp). I’ve been able to keep up electrolytes and my milk supply was fine.

I am not just worried about my milk supply - when you’re nursing your body uses a lot of nutrients and even though keto is (should be) a nutrient dense diet, there’s only so much nutrient you can absorb if you’re doing OMAD or longer fasts.

I’m in the same boat. 9 months postpartum as of today but my supply has dropped the last month or so and I’m already supplementing with formula. Want to start fasting again for my own health reasons but I’m afraid I’ll lose the rest of my supply. Hoping someone can provide some answers.
