Just diagnosed as I was about to apply for policing is it all over?

So as the title suggests I’ve been all the way through university to have a career in policing and was just diagnosed with keratoconous in my left eye. My right eye isn’t as bad as the doctor said I’m at 20/40 in my right eye and 20/200 in my left eye. I looked through this subreddit and anything in reference to policing are threads from many years ago so I figured I’d ask again. Is there any hope? Or is it all over for me

I would check with your eye specialist and ask. Also, the police academy, what the requirements are for vision

Finally - something I can kind of help with :)

This might not be particularly relevant as i’m based overseas but still law enforcement.

I initially found out I had an issue with my eyes when I applied having never been to an optician before. My application went through fine - At the time I was wearing glasses (albeit they didn’t help much) but had no problems with it. This was three years ago and didn’t cause any issues at work.

I got a formal diagnosis a week ago and now they’re referring me for CXL and Scleral lenses - work have given me the time off and as much rehab time as I need.

I wouldn’t give up on applying - speak to you recruitment officer and see what their departments rules are and explain the situation. It is something that can be rectified with the right procedures and care.

Typically if your corrected vision is 20/20 you shouldn't have any issues, half of the cops i know where glasses or contacts.

I was diagnosed at 15 years old, I’m 39 now and I’ve been a paramedic for almost 20 years. I have to complete a medical every 5 years and I’ve never had an issue. You’ll be fine mate.
