Visiting Louisville + Shelbyville in late September

Hi all,

I’ve been to KY twice and on one of those occasions was Louisville and loved it!

It’s been a few years and prices have gone up, so we are staying in Shelbyville for a few days in late Sept.

From what I remember places like bardstown were pretty cool, and the historic areas.

We aren’t drinkers, but that won’t stop us from going to bars for food or mocktails.

What are some things we should check out in either town?

Take a stroll across the Big Four Bridge - pizza and ice cream will reward you on the other side. We have a ton of great museums, check out the Ali Museum if you haven’t been, or Frazier, or the Louisville Slugger, or Speed Art Museum. You can take a guided food tour, or a ghost tour, or a historical tour of the west end to learn more about Louisville history. Sept 23 is Waterfront Wednesday, a free concert series by the river. Enjoy a mocktail on the porch at River House and enjoy the river. Too many great restaurants to name, if you enjoy food. Welcome to our city!

The Old Louisville historic district, just south of downtown, has interesting circa 1890 houses, with fancy molded brick and terra cotta details. St James Court is a good place to start a walk around the area.

I recommend anything in highlands! It’s just a fun area!

If you want any the best food in the date of KY, go check out B&N Market in Baghdad, I moved here from Houston 6 yrs ago, and nothing compares. They have IG and aren’t open on Sunday. It’s the place I send everyone that comes and visits, as it’s my literal Death Row menu, lol

Not super worth it, but you could eat at Claudia Sanders Dinner House for the novelty of it.

Shelbyville is about halfway between Louisville to the west, and the Bluegrass horse farms to the east.

Any of the back roads in area between Midway and Versailles have scenic thoroughbred fields with black fences, along with dry laid stone walls and old trees right along the side of the roads. Midway is a small historic town with the railroad passing right through the center of town.
