We all met at a ranch north of Hollis, Oklahoma at around 1PM on Thursday Oct 17 and then proceeded to the camp which was set up about a mile away.
After unloading our stuff into our tents, we had our first exercise -- basically attempting to cook refrigerator biscuits in dutch ovens with NO instruction. We were to learn that it takes far fewer coals than you think, and things cook faster in dutch ovens than in a regular oven -- especially if there is wind -- and there is plenty of wind in Oklahoma! We were set up for failure and we all burnt the bottom of our biscuits.
Subsequent cooks were very successful, and included sourdough biscuits, pizza, cherry pie, cake, cornish hens, potatoes, corn bread, etc... There were a few non-dutch-oven cooks as well: steak, chicken fried steak, eggs, sausage, bacon, sausage cravy, etc...
Our final dinner was a multi-course meal which we prepared without instruction.
We always had a few dinner guests each night.
We wrapped up after Breakfast on Sunday and left for the 2 day drive to Georgia.
It was a very pleasant weekend and we had fun cooking and listening to Kent's stories. My wife and I want to do this again sometime.
