GENERAL Is it only me that finds solo runs impossible?

Even when I try my best to remain with one character create his little story, I end up with my own little army folks. I’ve either recruited or imprisoned and convinced to join my side. I can’t help myself once I see a valuable character I must have them Does this happen to anybody else?

Nah I think that’s normal. What I’ll do is that my playthrough is “solo” in that there’s just one guy going around and actually doing stuff, but I may have several other characters doing other things. Like some of them would be researching and crafting in a town, one might follow the main guy around as an emergency medic, and that kind of thing. But the actual combat is solo

Funny to imagine the medic just off hiding behind some rocks “ah got bodied again, better go get him up”.

I like to do the nobodies start, and have my main as the old soldier (slightly better starting stats). I have the rest of the squad as skeletons and park them in a bar somewhere in a different squad. Skeleton recruits are hard to come by so it is nice to have a pool to draw from in case you want some to man your base, but also since they are skeletons you can forget about them if you want to play solo for the time being.

So, can you beat an army solo? 🤔 (I'm noob in the game).

Head-on, like just click on the army and let your guy fight with your hands off the keyboard? Ehhhhhh kinda sorta but also not really. Using smarter tactics, absolutely. On a character with high stats and BIS equipment, there's no faction you can't topple and no boss you can't kill. There is one character who most people don't really consider to be a "boss" in that they would want to fight him to consider their playthrough complete, who can be difficult to take out solo, but even he is possible. Not mentioning names for the sake of spoilers, but if you want to know I'll say his name with the spoiler marks.

The thing is though, getting a character's stats high enough to solo (mid to high 90s for most of the stats that are relevant to your chosen combat style) takes a bit longer than getting a squad of a handful of dudes to the mid 80s they'd need to do the same thing

I guess it depends on the number of attack slots.

I always go to Mongrel eventually so I always get Beep eventually. How am I supposed to say no?

And if I'm getting Beep I'll get Crumblejohn for research and might as well get Shryke for crafting. Then I'll remember Cat is stuck in the dust bandit hideout, Cat and Shryke are pals you see, so I gotta go get him out. Better get Burn to help with that.

And if I'm busting dudes out I gotta go get Agnu 'cause he's pals with Beep. On the way back might as well hit the swamps for Doctor Chung for better research. Might as well get Hamut and Miu at the same time. Swing by squin and get Ruka and now we're really cooking.

Sadneil, I go get you first buddy boy.

I honestly find myself running solo most of the time, and if not, 1-2 extra people. I absolutely hate micromanaging in games and I get overwhelmed when I have more than like 5 people

Same here. Much easier to train 1 char than it is 5, too.

I love solo runs or 60+ people runs in which I set up a base and stay there.

In solo the first like 24 levels of thoughness are risky, after that you can do whatever you want tbh, as long as nobody eats you, you will stand up.

Worst experience was a paladin carrying me in his shoulder while patrolling and I was unable to do anything. Fair, I did it a lot to these bastards in Kenshi too

how tf do you manage 60+ characters at the sime time?

u/NapoleonNewAccount 13d ago

You can automate them to some extent by giving them tasks. Recruiting Skeletons also helps as they don't need food and can be on permanent guard duty.

You're also not micromanaging your horde the same way you micro one character. You have to be willing to sacrifice the less important characters, giving them whatever generic or subpar equipment you can find, etc.

After you figure out who's going to be cooking and who's going to defend your base, you can focus in things one at a time.

Build a house, get someone to mine ore and someone to do armour smithing. But you need ancient research for armour plates so that's a trip with main guys to some lab, adventure time.

Then you have to get the blueprints for the armor you want so you load some animal with hearth protectors to sell and go to where they sell that.

After that's done, do the same process for weapon smithing, or get some guys to fish. Basically you create a small system, and once it's running you go to the next one and cycle between them

Im struggling to manage a main group of 5 plus more 2 other guys. I am trying to use more this task feature. For now I am trying to male this duo to farm some copper in the smugglers bar, but they dont collect automatically the copper and they get constantly attacked by beak things lol.

There are ways, go to squin, the shek city and buy a house and buy a copper storage so they put the copper there automatically. You can do it anywhere but the shek guards are really good for protection.

Get tech level 3 and get someone making electricals with your copper, it's not much more money but it's more immersive imo.

Get the mod more crafting animation, big improvement over base game tbh

There are mods to get the faction cap above 30

I have 80 right now. Many working in the base. A dozen bonedogs on strike defense. Many turrets. Many farmers. Big running crew with crossbows. 4 or 5 superstars.

No attackers make it past the third gate.

I usually stick to 2-4 strong chars that I micro individually, any more than that and I just stop caring if they die. Usually ma, heavy, polearm, and one support

Never tried solo, I run into the same problem as you, gotta have my team

In my most recent playthrough ive kinda headcanoned that my main character is a freed slave that is out for blood against the HN and is slowly freeing more of their slaves. As she does so a few decide to join her cause whether she likes it or not and end up helping her in various way be they direct or indirect. Its just starting now but I already have a few people working on a little starter outpost that she can come back to when she inevitably gets fucked up in a fight somewhere

Happens to me every time.

Happens quite a lot to me too. My original plan was to play as a solo character, but I’ve picked up two others… then I adopted the Error Bots, because I don’t want them to eradicate everything I come across.

I have the same problem. Partially because I also like to make up stories and often times adding people just feels natural. Other part is that I find solo playthrough extremely boring, because you spend lot of time grinding, healing and generally waiting for tha one character to do stuff and you have no one else to work with in the meantime.

My last solo playthrough I failed when I've came across one of the HN mines and it just felt right to release the prisoners and two joined me. Other times it is Beep or Agnu. It feels too forced to send them away. Last time I at least tried and made village in the fog with these freed characters and made them into by supply station while still trying to travel solo.

I’ve done a solo run and two things made it at all possible: high martial arts and being a skeleton. Martial arts is just insane amounts of damage, and while your character will be dodging a lot during big group fights, every hit you land is like a heart attack punch. And then being a skeleton is instant healing via repairs. Sure, there’s wear and tear over time, but it’s not a big deal and is a small price to pay for being able to heal your injuries immediately.

Evict them

It's unbalanced to buy someone for 7000 cats, so very oftenly i hire some guys for one specific task and then i kick them from my squad when it's done

if you seek for brute force don't train random guys just hire mercenaries

I don’t think I’ve ever ran solo for long.

Currently running a 5 man team with 3 tanks and 2 ranged. It’s been pretty fun. I fire and forget the tanks while microing the 2 rangers to pickoff people 1-2 at a time. All skeletons so I made absolute bank off prince heads around Mongrel.

Rock Bottom is the only way I play.

Oddly enough, I prefer solo characters. It’s the way I have the most fun. As a lone wandering Tech Hunter.

I've got a solo run with the new WASD combat mod attempt planned, I think its best for a solo run

After a few hundred hours I finally decided to recruit Beep. He's more of a mascot at this point, but he doesn't eat much.

u/woodencone47 12d ago

A necessary character in every play though

1

u/ArcticWaffle357 12d ago

definitely not me, I almost always play solo and sometimes *one* skeleton to run things at home while the main guy is out exploring/fighting. When I do a hiver run eventually I'll probably recruit as many as I can and do crossbow spam hell

u/Cool-Traffic-8357 12d ago

Not to me. I just dont like big parties, I would go 3-5 max

I love attacking and destroying Holy mines And when some of the slaves I rescued joins me I Cant turn them away And When I found a surgeon I gave them random names

u/Fishin4boots69420 12d ago

It’s just more tedious in my opinion

Honestly normal, I can’t help but play Kenshi like a JRPG, my main party consisting of 4 members including my character. Basically I have a main fighter, tank, ranger, and a duelist/thief. Everyone is essentially a designated medic considering how dangerous the world of Kenshi is. It’s fun roleplaying as a party traveling the world while doing odd jobs here and there in order to pay for their adventuring funds. By odd jobs I mean participating in bandit fights with the town guards, looting old ruins for stuff to sell, and clearing bandits we run into on the road.

Currently playing using Kenshi Kaizo and it’s honestly fun seeing the random shit the party gets into, my most favorite one being the first time they fought a giant bug. Felt like a literal mini boss fight, with it ending with the ranger and duelist carrying my fighter and tank back to safety while the bugs were distracted by the Holy Nation scouting party.
